May I start with the only real positive I can say about yesterdays game and that was the immaculate Rememberance Day celebrations.Sometimes it is something like this that makes you proud and WE WILL NOT FORGET THEM.
The Football (vague description of it) that followed was a bad case of just when you think it can't get much worse...it does! I can honestly say that after that rubbish yesterday I hope the replay is chosen as a TV match because there is nothing whatsoever that makes me want to pay money to see Bromley again. Great vocal support which we seem to lack at the moment but it is hardly surprising with the football that is being dished up. It is difficult to really think of anything from the first 70 minutes that was worth mentioning only that everything that was missing from our team was evident in watching about 5 minutes of highlights from the Maldon and Tiptree game. They have two players who I honestly believe would walk into our team and could transform the season because they have confidence on the ball and the exciting pace that we seriously lack. It is never more evident than when our dfenders get the ball in a bit of space but instead of running with the ball iinto that space they pass the ball sideways or backwards to another defender who has exactly the same ideal and by the time it reaches either full back they have been closed down and have no more ideal how to get the ball forward. It is like watching paint dry and that is the only way to describe yesterdays game. We are only still in the cup because Bromley are bloody awful too which to me shows the awful division that the National League must be this season.
I was hoping when Leahy scored with his first touch after coming on and one of our only shots on target from Sercombe that set it up that it was game over but of course our defence and goalkeeper whilst pretty sturdy throughout can still be banked upon to make a complete hash up and give the opposition a goal and so it was and although Clarke-Harris ;who it was good to see back; had a late shot that was on its way in before somehow being cleared by a defender it was too little too late.
I wont waste yours or my time by trying to make something of the individuals performances because a few words for each can sum up their performances yesterday.
Jaakkola 5 Has been on great form until yesterday. Terrible error on the goal.
Little 4 Great work on the goal but about the only thing that went right for him.
Craig 5 OK but doesn't bring the ball out.
Kilgour 4 Same as Craig but his decision making was worse.
Rodman 3 Couple of moments of pace but that was it.
Ogogo 2 Lost in an area that can only be described as out of bounds.
Upson 4 Good shot in first half and always tried to make positive passes but we really need some pace to be brought in January.
Sercombe 5 Extra mark over Upson for his part in the goal but there wasn't much inspiring.
Kelly 2 Sorry but just not good enough.
Smith 2 Why we don't just persevere with a couple of our OWN youngsters I just don't know. Nichols is bad but Smith is worse-come on GC just stick Deon Moore and Keiran Phillips in and give them a chance - they could not have been any worse.
Adeboyejo 4 Same comment as for Smith but thankfully Clarke-Harris should be back in now.
Subs: Nichols 3 They thought it was all over- it is now! Sums up his performances recently and the few minutes he had yesterday were a few too many.
Clarke-Harris 4 Unlucky not to score with his late drive. You could see he was trying too hard
Leahy 5 MOM Didn't need long to score as in the right place at the right time and that was all that was needed to scrape Man of the Match.
Crowd 2 Were we there? Bromley supporters were .
Ref 5 Perfect for Bromley to waste time and frustrate and that was all they looked capable of but it worked.
Bromley 5 Just as well they were pretty crap or we would be out!
GC Can't fault the results overall he has brought but this was awful, woeful , dismal and any other negative word I can think of. We need to be looking for a bit of pace all round to bring some sort of excitement back. When Maldon and Tiptree get knocked out- lets be first to get a couple of their speedy players a first chance of League Football and lets give a couple of our youngsters a chance on Wednesday. UTG
