Couldn't say it better myself. www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristol-Rovers-boss-Darrell-Clarke-defends/story-24309046-detail/story.htmlBristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke had leapt to the defence of his players against those who were critical of the way they performed in a scrappy 1-0 victory at AFC Telford United last weekend. Ollie Clarke’s second-half goal proved decisive in a turgid game against the Vanarama Conference’s lowest-ranked side, but the manager said: “I get a bit frustrated that people are expecting us to win three or four nil at Telford. “How did (leaders) Barnet get on at Telford? They drew 2-2; how did (promotion-chasing) Woking get on at Telford? They lost 3-1. It was a great win as far as I am concerned and I have to protect of my players because I think it is unfair that people are expecting them to play these teams off the park every week. “The club has changed and we are where we are. I want us to play better football at times, but when you are up against a packed midfield and space is at a premium you have to earn the right to win football matches first and foremost. ADVERTISEMENT “You have to look at the bigger picture sometimes and I think the players deserve massive credit for the way they are going about their business. It’s us against the world, that’s how I am trying to build it down here. “We don’t really care what people want to write in papers or on forums, we are not interested. We’ll just keep going and we’ll keep focused and that is the way it will be all season whether we are on a good run or a bad run.” Read more: www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristol-Rovers-boss-Darrell-Clarke-defends/story-24309046-detail/story.html#ixzz3IImPjTuSFollow us: @bristolpost on Twitter | bristolpost on Facebook If the club payed attention to half the sh**e on here or in the comment section of the evil, the club would've folded by now.

We've had nothing but ugly wins.
I haven't seen us be convincing all season.

must be a sign of progress when people are moaning about 1-0 wins It is The Conference and we are playing against several part-time clubs. i know that,we are a hard working top 8 conference team with some very good footballers for this level,,,we arnt great and we all hope were going to get better but a 1-0 win in any game of football for any team is just fine,,,,, woking are part time but there better than several full time teams in this league ,,,, some people simply wont accept that were non league and i can understand that, ive come to terms with it and believe we have a chance of promotion. it will be interesting to see how the conference premier teams fair in the cup this saturday

I admit that I haven't bothered to read the thread.
I was just amazed that a Darrell Clarke appreciation thread could run to 6 pages......

i'm with althepirate on this. we are 18 games in and 4th in the league and we will get better....
at the start of the season I feared we'd be looking a lot worse, so thank you Darrell.... it might not be pretty some of the time, but if you look at the goals we've scored this season I think people would have to admit that we've scored some cracking goals of which we haven't seen for a long time.... I agree, I feared the worst too, I never thought we'd in the top half, well done DC. I think we are missing a couple of players to be a good team. It is good to see we have players playing for the club and for they're shirt, we haven't seen that for a while, he has to be applauded for that alone.

DC contributed to our relegation out the league and was very very confident he would have us playing good football and getting promoted. Until he has us back in the league in the top half of league 2 he can expect a large degree of scepticism.
Its been a good start but not sensational. We have players giving their all and a team thats hard to beat. Lots more to be positive about then negative but all this poor us its us against the world stuff is a complete nonsense. The support has been amazing. Im in total awe of the level of commitment and passion given towards the team.
I know this wont be popular but i feel he owes us league football and i will only appreciate him when he delivers it. Even then he will have to prove himself at that level.

He may well have contributed to our relegation, may be changing too much too soon but imo the rot was already set in a long time before those last 10 games. We were rubbish for a long time, lack of goals cost us our League place.

He was assistant manager through all of that I cannot disagree with you, he was JW assistant but did he really have a say in any of it, you would think so but who knows.

personally i dont think darrell clarke has a cat in hells chance of making it at our club, most of the "fans" are just waiting for a bad run, then all hell will let loose and they will demand he gets sacked. our supporters have turned out in numbers but i dont recognise most of them as traditional rovers fans,,we really do only sing when were winning these days as the aldershot fans reminded us very vocally recently. like dinsdale says most fans will only be happy when were near the top of league 2 and this makes life much harder for dc and whichever poor sucker takes his place

DC got a very very good opportunity to manage a club our size and is learning quickly. There is very little between a top conference and top half league 2 team and getting the formula right this season would set us in a good position for an assault on league 2. I was just being honest in that I can't appreciate him untill he makes ammends for our relegation. You know me I don't post things to get pats on the head I just express myself honestly. Other then our strikers he has got a good side together which I never expected after a terrible start to the job not helped by how disorganised we were as a club after relegation and the lack of any player recruitment strategy at the club. So far he is doing much better then I ever imagined and I can't grumble with that. My only concern is that Barnet are creaping out of sight and I don't fancy the play offs. As for the supporters the fact they are turning out in numbers and getting behind the club is amazing. But its hard to create a good atmosphere in games where we are so clearly favourites and there are no big matches at this level.

I think that what most people are missing is that regardless of how pretty the football seems or whether we seem to be playing poorly and winning - the fact remains that Darrell Clarke has made us a more difficult team to beat. I say that and the fact remains that our defence is all players who were with us last year.

Darrell's doing ok, the results/league position is slightly better than i expected, the standard of performance is slightly poorer than i expected. He has a job to do - GET US BACK INTO THE LEAGUE, after that the jury is still out to see if he's the long term solution, but he's learning all the time and has the chance to prove he is that man.

I say that and the fact remains that our defence is all players who were with us last year. Didn't JW also set us out to be hard to beat? The problem with that approach was when JJOT's lost interest/his goals dried up we started losing every match. If we can keep pulling of 1-0's fair play to DC but if we can't then how long will fans play to watch awful football if we slip out of the Play Offs? I'm not sure I'll be rushing to watch my next away game after the Telford performance. As far as DC saying he's not worried about what fans say in the papers or on forums doesn't he appreciate it's these fans who pay his wages, and ultimately decide if he stays or goes? He's starting to sound like Buckle, which is a shame.
