It seems that his family life is a major issue - businesses usually find a way to help with relocations for senior managers/executives, why can't Rovers do this for GC? On the other hand, if he does go then it seems pretty ungrateful of him after his comments that no one would take a chance with him until Rovers did.

Totally bizarre move if true, surely going for promotion in League 1 is preferably to mid table League 2/getting sacked if he fails.

Of the things I didn't expect to see today, this is up there. The timing is just so bizarre, 4th in L1 and beaten Ipswich away from home and GC is willing to walk away to go to a club 18th in L2? The atmosphere next week at the mem could get really hostile if this does transpire and the board has anything to do with it. People will slate the board but this is clearly a personal decision based on geography. No other reason you'd make such a huge gamble.

Mansfield have parted company with John Dempster.
Cogs has been tapped.

But if he's going it means he's had a talk with the board and they've confirmed they won't be backing him and/or JCH will be sold.

Because they have to keep paying the bills for our 250k London HQ.

I sense that's cobblers as he's spent his playing and managing life 100's of miles from home, why take the Rovers manager's job if he wanted to move back home? Plus what difference does January make if that's the real reason. It's a decade since he played for a club near Sheffield: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_CoughlanSomebody has clearly informed the BP he's off because of lack of support in January/the poor training facilities.

Now Mansfield have sacked their manager, this is all more than a coincidence. I fully get the need for GC to think of his family first and that commute will be far better for him but I can’t help but feel that if he had assurances about where this club was going and was given some money in January then I think that being away from family would be that little bit easier and with the backing, perhaps they may have even moved down here.
A lot have been calling for his head even up to last week and it looks like they now have their wish but in the words of Joni Mitchell “ Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone”

He wanted to stay at Southend, then came to us when they didnt want him. Neither anywhere near where his family lives

He'll be given this season to stabilise the club and stop them from going down, and then push on next. Good luck to him. Not ideal but if that's what he wants to do for his family so be it

The board haven't done anything differently to any other club at this level, certainly on the pitch. Appears to be a family decision which is fair enough. Strange behaviour on his part though. Suspect he may well regret it in years to come.
