I would agree with that but he was sounding rather like DC did in his final days bemoaning a lack of a budget to work with in his interview and according to the BP, this has factored into play. The board have a lot to answer for in any case. How exactly?! He was backed in bringing in his own players and our wage bill is competitive at this level. People need to wake up and realise splashing the cash in L1 isn't going to happen in this climate. If this doesn't sound like DC, I don't know what does. "The opportunity and change is there for the football club to push on. Let's see where it goes and see what happens. "Look at that fanbase. Look at the players we've got. This is a massive club. This club could potentially be a championship club. That's the frustrating part." Like I said you're right Geography is probably the main reason but if the club itself wasn't an issue, he wouldn't have come out and said what he said.

Really, he is a football manager...
Surely his family support him if he was earning enough, and he should be paid more having us 4th in the table.
Cant understand why you would leave for a struggling league 2 club, that could go down and really ruin his managerial career...unless he is going to be earning more than he is here.
....IF GC is even going to them.

DC turned down Leeds and GC fecks off at the first opportunity to a club 37 places below us. Up the DC. Come home x Do people actually believe that DC turned them down? Personally I think he would have lasted a month there before being sacked Yes matey was confirmed in the press and all sorts. Don't think it would have mattered how long he lasted, would have been a sickkkkkkk pay day and people would have understood that he was working for a looney so he would have got other chances.

Now Mansfield have sacked their manager, this is all more than a coincidence. I fully get the need for GC to think of his family first and that commute will be far better for him but I can’t help but feel that if he had assurances about where this club was going and was given some money in January then I think that being away from family would be that little bit easier and with the backing, perhaps they may have even moved down here. A lot have been calling for his head even up to last week and it looks like they now have their wish but in the words of Joni Mitchell “ Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone” I think thats right. He struggling being so far away from home and wants to be closer,no one can agruge with him about that. But Im willing to bet that if wael said to him here you go,heres the cash to get the 4/5 players to get promotion then this wouldnt have happened. Why would he leave a much bigger club being 4th in L1 for a smaller one 18th in L2. This could go tits up for him as while he can spot a player his sides are based around hard work and heart. If he doesnt have the right characters up north in there changing room then he could be a conference manager in six months.

MTFC obviously had a word with GC. GC (I guess) tells them he will join them. GC tells the players he going. GC tells the press he's going home for a think and it will depend on how he wakes up in the morning. MTFC sack their manager and announce they're on the lookout for a new one. Big f**king mess if GC wakes up in a Rovers mood. Without the club accepting an offer, pretty sure this is illegal What happens if we complain to the FA, Mansfield get a small fine, we still don't keep GC, if it's true though he's as bigger snake is MT. Although where are Mansfield heading lower League 1 at best.

Ah well, I've backed him to the hilt. He can f**k off, now. Perhaps jumping the gun ? Who knows maybe his wife has said you come back up north or I can’t stay with you. Must be hard with kids and your partner is working hundreds of miles away and you and the kids only see them for a few hours a week. Maybe one if his kids are ill. Could be anything. Let’s wait and see before we tell him to f**k off eh ? Sure, it was a joke.

With respect to DC, Legend in my eyes, If a club like Leeds come calling you go, i dont think he turned them down as first choice for the job.

All is good.
My ITK source tells me he's only gone there to pick up the away shirts we let them borrow in 2014.

The board have a lot to answer for in any case. Agreed, The board offer GC more money, he stay simple as that. He has been here 18 months ive been told, suddenly he is manager and we are 4th, now he wants to leave? Something wrong... the owners. Where’s the honour in all this though? The board gave him a shot and he knew there was no money then. He was happy to work under those conditions until he got 5 minutes of fame- and that.’s all it is. He could quite well go to Mansfield and flop like DC has flopped at Walsall because it just so happened the conditions and players were right here for him to be a success...and now he has thrown all that in the bin. Whatever you think of the board, GC does not come out of this looking good. 4th in the table and unable to see it out for 4 more months? Even worse goes to a club fighting relegation in the league below?! Do me a favour, it’s the Snake MKII

Just one normal day at Bristol Rovers football club, that’s all I ask This a normal day . This time last year we were bottom of the league but most gasheads still loved DC. Now we’re 4th in league 1 and most don’t like GC . Things haven’t changed , they’re just upside down.

He knew where his family would be staying when he signed for us. So I'm sorry, that excuse doesn't sit right with me. He got his stock up with us, now he's fuc*ing off, Mansfield have been splashing the cash lately, so probably chasing the money. Listen Tent dweller, you have no idea what's going on. Maybe is wife has cancer? Maybe one of his children is ill? Have you thought of that? There are lots of personal reasons people make choices. He saved us from the debacle that Clarke left us with and has put us in to a VERY good position. what ever happens I will thank him for saving us against playing the likes of Walsall and Macclesfield

This has dampened the day somewhat!
Only at Rovers could this happen
Big worries that the squad will not take this well and we will sell our asset in Jan and plod aimlessly to mid lower table?
Will the owners actually say anything on this matter?
If it’s for solely family issues I’m sure we could all move on and wish him luck but something is wrong here.
I’m fearful that we won’t get lucky again with an untried manager, and things could turn toxic if indeed he does leave this week. Just when things were finally starting to look promising!

If he does indeed leave us to join Mansfield I suspect it’s for a mixture of reasons. Family issues will obviously be a strong factor but in football it’s an occupational hazard which he will have been accustomed to over the past 25 years. If he is ambitious, and I have not doubt he is, then he isn’t going to limit the remainder of his managerial career to a 45 minute radius of Sheffield. Would he even be thinking of leaving, regardless of any domestic pressures, if he knew he was going to get financial backing in the January window and that a new stadium/training ground was on the horizon.
Feeling more disillusioned with Rovers than ever at the moment.
