We were a win away from going second with Nichols in the team, he must have been doing something right! Don't waste your breath Topper. Some don't seem to get that TN still has a positive impact on the team despite individually not scoring enough. He might have had a positive impact, but without JCH’s goals last season we would have been relegated. Too lightweight for me and very rarely a threat. Obviously he has talent, but we can do so much better and the thought of JCH possibly leaving in the window we need someone in that can score.

Some don't seem to get that TN still has a positive impact on the team despite individually not scoring enough. Can't deny he has a positive impact on team performances. When JCH is on fire, it works well. But when Nichols strike partner isn't scoring, it then becomes a problem. Even if Nichols scored around 10 goals in a season, he would be a good addition to any squad at this level. He could still come good in the future. But this is his third season here now. So it's unlikely he will come good here. I would probally rather have Nichols than Reilly. I probally would have kept Nichols until the end of the season. As I doubt a league 2 club can afford his wages. So if we have to pay towards them, it won't free up much anyway. I would have released him then, as we can probably do better for the money. Definitely could have got better for £300,000. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

What footballer isn't that true of?

True you can say it about a lot of player's. Was just saying IMO of he got a few goals, he would be worth keeping.

this isn't about whether Nichols is good / bad/ indifferent. I was just saying that if you had been told to look for another club why would the manager play you, and why would you want to. I suspect Saturay is one up front game

Sorry but goals wins games and Nicholls is the worst striker we have ever had for such a long period of time, we should of got rid after the first season of his failure We were a win away from going second with Nichols in the team, he must have been doing something right! Well he hasn’t been doing his main job of hitting the back of the net, Tony Craig is more prolific.

He doesn't offer goals. That would be like me saying I offer more than delicious cups of tea while handing you a flower pot filled with rain water. All this "he does other things" rubbish is just that. He should as a minimum be doing that stuff. How people have managed to turn that into him being an unrecognised hero is beyond me. Gaffney, Jakubiak, Telford: all better players and probably cheaper. We seriously may as well have kept Luke James.

Until BG turned up TN was playing in a promotion chasing side, those 4 are mostly subs for their sides, he must have been doing something right. Now tomorrow we just have to hope Barrett plays well with JCH or we face a long end to the season if TN now decides to do a Bennett and sees out his contract, after all if he's as bad as your making out what other league club are going to take him off our hands?

The difference between fans and the scouting setups of league teams is that scouts don’t Wikipedia a goal record and be immediately put off a player, they go out and see that player for themselves. If they’ve seen Nichols at all for us then they’ll know he’s a talented footballer that hasn’t had any luck in front of goal here but his record at previous clubs suggests that he could find it again if he goes to the right club. For that reason I can see more than a few L2 and bottom half L1 sides interested in him.

How many of those are down to BG picking him at least 3? I assume TN's played 60+ mins on average, KB 10 mins on a good day? Anyway lets see how we get on tomorrow w/o Nichols as using your logic we'll have an easy win and score a hat full, if so, then we'll both be pleased this time tomorrow.

We were a win away from going second with Nichols in the team, he must have been doing something right! Just like the flawed "the manager played him" logic, the same applies to Bennett. Next. That's no kind of answer, and you don't really have one, do you? You don't know why GC selected him. You don't know what GC thinks of him. You don't know how he performs in training sessions. You don't know why JCH is so pleased to have him in the team. You don't know why we did so well in the league when he was a regular. You don't know, but you just look at his goals tally and call him useless. Again and again. Despite the clear evidence that the side did well this season when he was selected. And also when JCH was out injured. Anyway, we have a new manager now who doesn't rate him, and we are winless in four, so you must be pleased or something.

All of those same don't knows apply to you. You don't know any more than I do. So what's your point? I do know he's the worst striker ever to play for Rovers. I can get that information from his goals to minutes played ratio. Why would I be pleased that we've lost 2 league games since our new manager joined? Nichols played all but 13 minutes of both of those by the way.

At home to AFC Wimbledon and away to MK Dons. So what's your theory? When Nichols plays the managers know what they're doing and when Bennett plays they don't?

Apart from Coventry away I can't recall Bennett making one league start, even under BG he's only appeared for the last 5 minutes or so, I've no idea what point you are trying to make. The simple fact is Nichol starts Bennett virtually never does.

No room for sentiment a striker is paid to score goals I have been fully supportive of both Nicho and Gav but they have not delivered, Reilly I think is the better finisher and Nicho has a good football brain and great touch but neither are good enough.

Or you think they just show up at random?
