He wants a team of players who are comfortable on the ball. He wants to get young players in on loan from bigger clubs. He wants to sign young players and develop their game. He wants the team to play good on the deck football.
Like swansea and more to the point like doncaster and coventry.
The signings we have made reflect the new ethos that ben garner is bringing to the club backed by wael.
If it works out we will be in a much better place as a club, big if of course.

No we want a 6’10” Centre Forward and every time we get the ball we kick it really hard in his direction. Footballs a simple game

Footballs a simple game Assuming you’re taking the p*ss but actually as a counter for monied clubs, which we are clearly not, then this is the way to succeed. Money brings with it a pedigree of player in the academy and in the first team. Garner is very much one of those managers/coach’s that are great on theory. Their idea is to out think the opposing manager tactically. It’s why Allardyce, Pulis and Warnock are always called upon when a club needs saving. Cut the crap and get it forward. This makes perfect sense to me, even more so at lower league level. I also love the fact there’s more passion involved. Has the game ever been more boring than it is now? Give me a Coughlan type all day long.

Give me a Coughlan type all day long. Tend to agree. The Allardyce/Pulis/Warnock style of football was based largely on getting the ball forward and exploiting set pieces in attackng positions. This style of football is very effective unless the opposition is skilfull enough to counter it. Few teams are. I believe one of the earliest managers to utilise this style was Graham Taylor at Watford. Interesting enough, both Taylor and Allerdyce became England managers. Sadly, I have to confess to a grudging admiration for this style of football. It worked for GC here. It also worked for Allerdyce (Bolton, Pulis (Stoke) and Warnock (everywhere). Despite its dour nature, this approach is very effective against most teams.

I am all for the philosophy the OP quotes(not forgetting our development players)and sincerely hope it works out ,got to give it time and BG has a free hit and the rest of season to get it right, GC did not have that luxury and had to cut his cloth accordingly which he did with great credit, as an aside i just watched extended highlights of 'that' Daggers game and we didn't half play some good stuff! great passing and incisive moves we really did play well that day so more of the same please! it also highlighted some glaring misses, notably from Taylor (3)the last of which we got lucky with the rebound! and the rest is history!

Me leave off if you remember half time Boxing Day we were second now we are in the bottom half of the league, only scored one goal this year not won since I don’t know when , crowds disappearing and you are happy with that, well I am not and the bloke needs to go now. It as a quick signing, which at first appeared to be a good thing . But now we realise it was just panic get the first bloke who was interested instead of waiting and getting the right bloke, if BG stays we will be lucky to stay up this season

God this forum never ceases to amaze me, many posters spent 10 months bemoaning GC style of football, how boring it was ,ball always in the air ,no wingers blah blah. We get a Mgr who has had for various no time on the training pitch yet is determined to get the ball down play out of the back utilise wingers to create chances etc. Yet all I see is moaning ,it won't happen he doesn't know what he's doing..... For Christ sake give the man time ,if you can't see what type of player he wants by this window you must know little about football. It is likely we will end up mid table but I for one am excited to see if we can move to a passing game rather than hoof ball Give the man the summer to work with the players and judge him 10 games into next season.

If you want that sort of football, we should all go up the downs to watch, these are professional footballers so to say they can’t pass the ball is hideous, we’re not some top team but I do want to see my team play and pass like Coventry did. Give BG some respect and time, it will work out .

Some Gasheads deserve Ray Graydon managing loan players such as Alex Wall, Bradley Goldberg, Michel Di Piedi & nothing less.

I was very sceptical of appointing garner and posted as much but the vision of a better way of playing combined with signing players who can improve is a worthy one. Maybe its the only road to sustainability available to us right now?

Maybe its the only road to sustainability available to us right now? It's OK having a vision but he needs to turn that vision into results PDQ or we've be dragged into a relegation fight if we continue losing virtually every match. We all know when the going gets tough youngsters tend to go into hiding, look at Clark-Slater, Colkett & Boateng as classic examples, with Barrett and M-L not even first team starters at the moment.

That’s the issue isn’t it? We’re just hoovering young loanees/permanents and everyone is being greeted with the same reaction “BRILLIANT PLAYER!!1” when most have no record to speak of at senior level. How do people know they are so good? Because they have played some under 23 football? I would have thought that the LDV results would show that under 23 football is not comparable with league football. As you say it’s like fans have forgotten the likes of Boateng who brought nothing. In fact, it’s probably easier to count the successful outfield loans that we have had over the past few seasons. Off the top of my head only Sweeney stands out, Smith scored a few goals so not a total disaster. After that I’m struggling. On the one hand we obviously have to save money and these signings are a reflection of that, fair enough. But there does seem to be a certain ignorance of the dangers of filling your squad with young kids who could end up brilliant or (most often) crap.

It’s not as if we were in the top 2 all season then dipped? Your not a proper gashead as you wouldn’t be so ungrateful for the club to invest in the future with decent young talent that we could watch good exciting football and make a healthy profit off! Everyone saying GC left as he wasn’t being backed and the board have shown their backing their man. UTG
