Just passed the Colony to see last years pitch being dumped via a 8 wheeler tipper lorry. Is this land fill or the start of pitch leveling for the new training ground?

I can confirm that it is indeed the start of putting some form of training ground together. I'm told they will look to develop the two pitches that were there already, as they are in a much better state than the rest of the ground.
Indeed, a few days ago I was told that Ben Garner and a small entourage all made there way there to look around. It's long overdue, but it must be said that it is a welcome development.
Furthermore, it should help with further recruitment if they can make it into a decent training setup.

Sadly suspect cheapest place to dump it .......
Would almost have been worth taking a chance on the Mem pitch and spending the money preparing a decent training pitch at the Colony ......
Considering they may well be told to arrive at training in kit and there won't be any big team meetings after training they might not have even needed changing rooms :-)
Could have moved a portacabin from the mem to store a few footballs and cones in :-)

Watching BBC today broadcast from Rotherham's ground I wonder how dumps like Rotherham and Doncaster can have such modern stadiums.Would so love to hear news of something infrastructure wise moving forward after decades of neglect and tents.

Hope you are right ...... Perhaps it is cheaper to do that than keep renting.

Rotherham were helped by the council and Doncaster took over a council owned stadium. Never going to happen in a two team city.

I would suspect being dumps is exactly the reason they have managed to move into modern stadiums. Land prices are much cheaper in that neck of the woods and disused brownfield development sites more common. At the moment Rovers are finding it hard to source a new stadium site in Bristol, let alone come up with the money to buy it.

This should have been done a long time ago, it was blatantly clear that Cribbs wouldn’t be our long term base with its lease expiring.
Even if it’s done cheaply at first with a few pitches and a few portacabins, the very fact we own our own training ground means we can get on developing it in stages so that one day it might turn into something that is actually decent.

Average house price in Rotherham is 162K, in Bristol 346K, which will be at least partially reflected in land values. Really pays to be in a dump if you're a lower teir football team.

Agreed but in the short term the portacabins would worry me cos the local yobs have broken in at least twice but how you vandalize derelict buildings I am not sure ( says a lot about their IQ) It was mentioned on here a few weeks ago that one of the barn conversions could have been for a groundsman which may deterred this sort of behaviour. Shame our planning consultants made such a pigs ear of the application

Rumour has it that Rovers have cottoned on to the new Marble racing craze and are getting in at the start by constructing a state of the art Marble grand prix course and associated spectator facilities!

Shame our planning consultants made such a pigs ear of the application Given where the ground is I'd be surprised if they are any local yobs, the housing development next door must all be £500K+ houses? I sense a decent CCTV camera system would soon put them off damaging any onsite buildings in the future, or just house a groundsman in a decent mobile/park home. If we're shifting a large amount of earth from the Mem pitch then that's surely a big sign there's now zero chance of us playing there again this season.

If it's true and they are building some pitches there, why would the club not announce this? Surely we'd want to promote some good news?

Ok so as a gas head I have become cynical, sceptical and a doubting Thomas. Under lockdown I have also become dependant on 4 quid a bottle Sauvignon Blanc, anyway I digress.
Are we sure the club are not just dumping the top scrapings from the Mem at the Colony to save money on disposal? To have any sort of training ground we will need connection to drainage for sewerage and storm water. There may be some in place now but surely we will need more than just a couple of rented portakabins and shower blocks. Then there is electricity and potable water. Also the access road, parking, all weather training pitch as a fall back, suitable flood lighting. The list of essentials even for a basic set up is endless. I hope we are doing something of value but as I say I am a doubting Thomas.
Where did that saying come from anyway!? Greg’s?

Where did that saying come from anyway!? Greg’s? John 20:24-29 New International Version (NIV) Jesus Appears to Thomas 24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” 30 Then Jesus said unto the Gas, “I won't believe it until I'm sat in it.”

Tom G emailed me before Christmas to say there was a new stadium manager in place, I had been talking to T G about giving the club some money for stadium improvements and was informed that the new contact was this chap Roberts.
