Reading the story about relaying the pitch it mentioned we have a stadium manager at the memorial ground I thought tom gorridge was running it ? Tom G emailed me before Christmas to say there was a new stadium manager in place, I had been talking to T G about giving the club some money for stadium improvements and was informed that the new contact was this chap Roberts. Feck me Weirton don’t prolong our agony! Fair play by the way!

I can confirm that it is indeed the start of putting some form of training ground together. I'm told they will look to develop the two pitches that were there already, as they are in a much better state than the rest of the ground. Indeed, a few days ago I was told that Ben Garner and a small entourage all made there way there to look around. It's long overdue, but it must be said that it is a welcome development. Furthermore, it should help with further recruitment if they can make it into a decent training setup. If true then this is really great news.

Ok so as a gas head I have become cynical, sceptical and a doubting Thomas. Under lockdown I have also become dependant on 4 quid a bottle Sauvignon Blanc, anyway I digress. Are we sure the club are not just dumping the top scrapings from the Mem at the Colony to save money on disposal? To have any sort of training ground we will need connection to drainage for sewerage and storm water. There may be some in place now but surely we will need more than just a couple of rented portakabins and shower blocks. Then there is electricity and potable water. Also the access road, parking, all weather training pitch as a fall back, suitable flood lighting. The list of essentials even for a basic set up is endless. I hope we are doing something of value but as I say I am a doubting Thomas. Where did that saying come from anyway!? Greg’s? Not sure we need an all weather pitch and flood lighting in the short term? Even if we just have 2 pitches and a couple of portakabins we can at least say we've got our own training ground, and it's also a sign the ALQ's are prepared to keep on supporting us financially.

Given that all you ITK owner bashers label WAQ as a fame whore who’s desperately trying to score popularity points to feed his massive ego he apparently has, I would be pretty sure he would come up with a lot better way to announce the start of the project than having a presidents club member and a bitter shareholder announce the news on a forum... Just my take on it.

Just passed the Colony to see last years pitch being dumped via a 8 wheeler tipper lorry. Is this land fill or the start of pitch leveling for the new training ground? absolute rubbish and yes the owners are using it as a rubbish tip! God knows how a club like us will come back from this global financial crisis but it certainly wont be with a new training facility.

Portakabins with showers and toilets? Connections needed. No need for an all weather pitch? What happens when it rains heavily, freezes or snows? Topper come on surely even you can see where this is going.

If the Romans could do this water and sanitation thing ...... Guess they have a big septic tank and a water butt in the new base for the helicopters up that way.
Guess they would go and use the all weather pitch they already use ......
Fully agree it seems unlikely we would do this now after years of doing nothing, but to pretend creating a usable couple of pitches and a basic temporary building is impossibly difficult/expensive is perhaps why we have not managed to JFDI so far.

There's already buildings of some kind at The Colony I assume they must have electric and running water, although is installing both really beyond a football club with a £6m turnover? I can't see why we can't use the present 4G pitch we have access to for the couple of days a year it snows in Bristol. Anyway what's the alternative keeping dreaming one day somebody will pay for a state of the art training complex?

Agreed but in the short term the portacabins would worry me cos the local yobs have broken in at least twice but how you vandalize derelict buildings I am not sure ( says a lot about their IQ) It was mentioned on here a few weeks ago that one of the barn conversions could have been for a groundsman which may deterred this sort of behaviour. Shame our planning consultants made such a pigs ear of the application It appears Bolders will be doing the night Security patrol At the Colony. A badass with a truncheon should keep the local thieves and Vandals away. Note: possibly not a truncheon.

How could anyone tell if it was last years pitch? Good point.I got out of my car and had a word with the driver (keeping 2metres apart !) Great bloke ,he confirmed it was the Mem pitch and that he had instructions to dump the soil in a specific place at the colony.

And if you are going to come on here “confirming” (confirmed by who btw) things then at least make it believable and logical. In case you haven’t noticed, we are upside down by £20m, have no income of any sorts and are smack bang into the biggest economic depressions the world has faced since the 30s. It will make the 07 crash look paltry by comparison. We won’t be spending somewhere near a couple of million on the training ground right now. Like I said, this would be one massive announcement for the club to make, and if we were doing any form of prep work on getting it sorted we would know officially before it started. Haven’t you learned not to be taken in by Gasincider and his cronies yet?

The club have a habit of announcing good news, and they haven't announced anything with regards to progress at the training ground. I'll believe it when I see it. No offense to gasincider but sadly I will not believe any infrastructure rumours from this forum anymore. Burned too many times.

If they announce a couple of pitches and portakabins, I am sure someone would find reason to moan about that. I dont beleive anything is happening their, but if it was I wouldnt blame the club for not mentioning it.
