What sort of welcome will he get from City fans? Assuming he’s going there as assistant.

With respect to Trolls, he might be a decent coach but was absolutely found out once Lennie Lawrence left us.
Hughton, nice guy, did a good job at Brighton whilst they were riding the wave of moving into new ground. Biggest achievement probbaly keeping them up in the Prem twice.

He got Newcastle promoted too.
He's a really good Championship manager and sadly will probably do well at City.
I really don't get why there's so much City discussion on here, then in the next breath accuse their fans of being obsessed with us. Couldn't give a toss what they do 🤷🏻♂️

Luckily their choice in managers has been poor enough to keep them away so far..

If you mean attracting kids and new fans because of their superior infrastructure, that ship has long sailed. If you mean it'll annoy you because City fans you know will wind you up in the office or the pub then that's your problem. We might benefit from some loan players if they improve their squad rapidly. Obviously it'd be a nightmare if they do, but my point was only that we didn't have to talk or think about it!

As I said on another thread - Marquee signings of Dominic Blizzard and Jeff Hughes and the useless barn door hitting Andy Williams? They were all signed by LL. You can add Carl Regan (worst full back I've ever seen 'play' for Rovers) and Mark Wright to the LL list of dross signings. I'm not surprised PT failed as Rovers manager - LL had already spent the budget on decidedly bang average (and worse) players on long contracts. It's no surprise that the promotion winning team were mainly IA signings. Now he could spot a player, who could not only play but could also play 40 games a season. His ability has since been proven by his jobs working on player recruitment for Sunderland, Everton and now Aston Villa. I've never understood the LL love in.

You’re as good as the company you keep, so it’s more likely that the sh**e will bring him down to their level than Hughton raises them. UTG!

I hope the club don't have that mentality or we really will be fu*ked. I don't think it's the case, anyway. Istm City's improved facilities and league position means that a good number of the 'lightweight*' City fans from across the city are inclined to turn up at the gate when they might not have before. A similar thing will happen to lightweight* Rovers fans if we had a brand new stadium and/or we got to the championship. I'd guess there are c.100,000 lightweight* City and Rovers fans across the city. If City (or Rovers) got to the prem then they would turn the plastic* hordes (basically everyone else) to their side, and most of those you see wearing liverpool/arsenal/barcelona tops around the place would be inclined to become fans. *not meant disparagingly, just a three tier system for measuring likelihood of turning up to a game hardcore/lightweight/plastic

Hughton is a proven success at Championship level and with Lansdown's millions then I fear he could get them up - if not next season then within a couple of seasons. If that were to happen then we need to have the new ground in place or very close, and ideally be in the Championship ourselves to compete for fanbase.

Some media sources saying Houghton has agreed deal. Good. If I remember well that ended disastrously for them the last time they had a Houghton. His mate Roy Hodgson wasn’t much better.😉 UTG!

Haughton is a likeable guy and it's hard to dislike him even if he becomes the next manager of them but when people say hes the proven man to get clubs out of the championship then I'm sorry but I don't agree. Hes been a number 2 for most of his non playing days and yes the brighton era was good but hes no proven manager when it comes to the likes of mick McCarthy and warnock. It's a good appointment but if trolls follows him then I can see their fans on his back before work has begun

Good manager who sadly will do well there if he was to get it.
