I wonder if the smell of the petrol had evaporated before the insurance assessor arrived to evaluate the damage?

I wonder if the smell of the petrol had evaporated before the insurance assessor arrived to evaluate the damage? Apparently......it was a mouse chewed through electric cables??

A pint of DD on the Tote during the evening games. Strolling past Her Majesties looking to see if there was a mucky film on. On the Tote during the Arsenal game,no social distancing then!!. On the Tote for Aston Villa separated from the Villa fans by a small gap with police dogs, all sorts of missiles flying. Down at Mueller Road end one misty evening when Robin Stubbs intercepted a back pass and strolled round the keeper to slot home. Watching Smash & Grab slam 7 past Bradford. And that smell particularly on damp November evening's. Alan Warboys hadn't signed for us when we beat Bradford City 7-1, that was in 1971, Warboys didn't sign until 1972. Brian Godfrey hit a rocket though! Funny how our memories play tricks on us!

Was it an old wifes tale that the names and addresses of those allegedly involved were printed in the paper?

My own memories from the late 1960s and early 1970s....
2/- (10p) entrance to the Muller Road end, my Dad making sure I was through the Juveniles turnstile safely before going through the adult turnstiles himself. Rosette seller just inside - if Dad was feeling flush he'd buy me a rosette and sometimes pay the extra 1/- (5p) transfer to go into the North Enclosure. Pick up a programme (with a free Football League Review).
Players came out for a kickaround 5 or 10 minutes before kick off - none of this warming up for 30-40 minutes then. One substitute. No squad numbers.
The "Eastville Roar" and the noise of the Tote. The North Enclosure's chorus of 'Arold,'Arold ......
The crunch of the cinder pitch as you entered the site from the Muller Road entrance.
Greyhound kennels.
League cup games against Newcastle, Norwich, Birmingham, Aston Villa and Stoke under the lights, crowds over 20,000....
The Watney Cup.
The promotion celebration match v. Brighton 1973/74. A 1-1 draw but we were already up.
The unique bouquet of the ground - a heady mix of gas, cigarette smoke, stale beer and hot dogs.
Oscar (although we always called him Brian at Hillfields) selling programmes.
Golden Goal tickets.
Getting home in time to read the match report in the Green 'Un....
Wonderful times.

The half time scores boards, with letters to denote who was playing. I remember that. Didn't you have to buy a programme to find out which half time scores were being displayed. Yeah but they took so long putting the scores up from what I remember, that it was ten past four and they were all meaningless.

Alfie's perfectly styled hair as he rose majestically to head in the winner, Football specials from Hartcliffe, Rovers playing in all blue shirts, One shilling and six to get in, Half time post after the game. Queueing to get a green un if we won.

Bruce Bannister scoring the winner against Sunderland and equaliser against Man Utd in the snow. Scoring five in the pouring rain against Notts County and then again against Charlton. Beating Chelsea 3-0 and fa cup holders Southampton 2-0 watching us play Fulham who had the likes of Bobby Moore, Alan Mullery and in a later game George Best in their side We also had a few classy players mind probably the best midfielder since i have been watching the club David Williams brilliant passer of the ball and he scored some superb long rangers. Micky Barrett, skillful pacey winger who had plenty of goals in him. Shame we sold the ground all those years ago, i am sure the our future would have been so much better if we had still owned and developed the stadium with all those government grants made available in the 80's and 90's. One thing we must never do is sell the Mem without having our own new stadium to go to.

What were the pasties like back then? Can't remember if they had any hot food then. KitKat and a cup of Bovril was as good as it got.
