I'm honestly just happy because the football is about to restart, I took it for granted really. A new training ground being built and Wael capitalising the debt are definitely more reasons to be happy. As to how happy I am about things on the pitch, we'll wait and see really. I think we've made some really decent signings such as Westbrooke and Ehmer but that's slightly tempered by losing JCH and Garners record as manager so far. If we sign a good replacement to JCH and Garner manages to shake the shackles of last season off and drastically improve his record, I think I'll be even happier.

Can't really answer this until we sign a replacement for JCH.
As it stands, I'm not happy with the squad because we don't have any strikers with football league experience or a history of scoring goals at this level.
However, I'm confident we'll bring at least one in and that will determine whether I go into the season happy / optimistic or not.

I thought we needed another before we lost JCH now I think we need two. Preferably an experienced goal scorer at this level and also someone younger with potential who’s been banging them in in league 2/ conference. To get that we probably need to spend most of the money from the JCH sale and whilst I’ve never known us do that perhaps we’ll spend more than we previously have now that we appear to be effectively debt free. Losing JCH is a blow but Wael not putting the money back in to the playing budget could be very detrimental to our club I don’t want to see us become the club with the best training facilities in league 2 next year and lots of young players with potential . Crewe we ain’t.

At the start of the lockdown I did wonder if we would even have a club to support come the new season so I'm pleased about the capitalisation and especially the training ground. We seem to be more stable now, at least in the short term.
Recruitment wise, pleased with the players brought in. Shame JCH left but a bit of money in return so provided we can get a good replacement then I'll be delighted.
Wael has reset the clock in my view so I think we should with the manager too.
New season, new start all round.

I'm very happy with how the summer has gone.
The JCH departure aside, which I'm not even that disappointed about, we have had just about the best summer off the pitch that I can ever remember? Training ground started, debt capitalised, several unusually solid signings on paper, and finally some promising signs of some slick football to come.
Cautiously optimistic, but also realistic that we have to work on getting a replacement striker in, and BG has a lot to prove in terms of results. He's done everything else right this summer, so let's hope he can get that monkey off his back.
Excited for the season to start. UTG!

Ipswich are suggesting Ollie Hawkins is a good signing as he gets his head on crosses, etc if that's good enough for them surely it is for us Surely a signing like Hawkins would be completely against what Garner is trying to do. He's more of a GC type signing. What's Johan going to do then at 6'3" if he's not going to use his head? He looks a bigger unit than JCH from what I've seen. Perhaps BG already sees him as JCH's replacement.

I am pleasantly surprised with whats been going on off the pitch, which definitely bodes well for the future. The signings made so far appear to be good for div 1; my biggest concerns are 1) the current lack of goal threat, no goals = no pints = struggle, & 2) Ben Garner, lets be honest when he arrived we were in a very good position in the league, he has struggled so far to win matches, lets hope he knows what he is doing and BRFC have a half tidy season, for me, middle table will do nicely.

Shouldnt that be "improving" our league position? Otherwise whats the point of playing? Seems like we're here now just to develop young players to sell on at a profit, if not, then surely BG would now be demanding that Wael invested at least half of the proceeds of JCH's sale in the squad, not suggesting he still needs to weigh up his options. After just 1 win out of 3 pre-season games v league opposition we're apparently already clearly stronger on the pitch than when GC walked out. I get the impression though that Garner thinks he can unearth/create quality players, so he won’t be the type to demand of the board that they give him £500k to buy a marquee player like DC and GC undoubtedly would. If I’m right on this I think it’s a bit naive.

Ta be fair pal if you had ta troll back thru 7 months of posts ta do some ‘point scoring’ it says more about you than Topper IMO.

The season hasn’t started and we’re approaching the unknown just the same as any other season regarding how we’ll get on position wise, same for every supporter of every club. I’m happy the training ground is being built at last but well only know if our squad and manager are any good once we get going. I’m not that happy really compared to other seasons as I know I won’t be watching Rovers on the terraces so I’m not looking forward to it as much as I normally do but there still is some of that pre season apprehension and excitement there. I’m fairly confident we’ve got a strong defence and our keeper is a class act for this level that I am sure of. In westbrooke we hopefully have our replacement at last for Lines and Grant looks a decent replacement for Ogogo / Clarke my worry is if he gets injured or suspended who does the dirty work in front of the back line ? Up front we’ve obviously lost JCH but we’ve got the players to play around a striker in the likes of rodman , Nicholson , the lad from derby , Hargreaves etc plenty of attacking midfielders / wide men but what we probably lack now is that main man in the middle to get a goal every other game. One of the young inexperienced lads might make that spot theirs and hit the ground running but that’s a massive risk as we could very easily find ourselves Played 3 lost 3 after three games without JCH and without a replacement. It would be great and unusual to have a good start but do I think we will ? Probably not. Not the end of the world if we don’t sure and the first three are very tough looking games and you play everyone twice over a season ( Covid may put the boot in on that) anyway and October on paper looks a month where we should pick up points. Ask if we’re happy again at Christmas . Bump Well Grant certainly wasn’t the tough ball winner I was hoping for he’s played one good game in about every 5 and we didn’t replace JCH or bring in a tough ball winner with leadership. Hence we’re staring relegation in the face with 8 games to go.
