I’ve had a beer so I’ll keep it brief.
The 3-4-3 works better against a back 3. There isn’t full backs and wingers to make it 2 v 1 in the wide areas. Still needs to be tested properly against back 4’s consistently.
We were street wise, won fouls. We defended our box properly.
Improvement but not there yet.

Didn't watch the game so can't comment too much but if you offered me a point pre-match, I'd have taken it. And if you offered me a point knowing they'd have 72% possession, 25 shots and 11 corners I'd have definitely taken it.

Play any formation you like, most of second half it looked like we were 7-2-1.
A better performance. A very good result.

Only 8 on target according to BBC, so hardly THAT efficient in the grand schemes. Again, didn't watch so can't comment

Some proper man's defending, good game management (well done Ben) against a team that will do its business at the top end of the division - hope the new guy is OK

Yes, it’s a strange one. From what I saw they had possession in the middle third and their defensive third. Our CHs dealt really well with most of the stuff thrown into the box. UTG!

Little made 2 goal line clearances I believe (certainly the second but think the first was too?). Harries was very good I thought. Leahy good too before coming off but did almost get caught out a couple of times - that said, some great blocks/clearances. Kilgour was okay but distribution very poor.
Everyone else did okay. Jakkola I'm delighted to have back - best keeper in the league by some margin.
Hanlon looked very sharp against a very good side. Little service and no chances but his general play - touches and holding the ball up were absolutely spot on. Very excited by him based on today - hope the injury isn't serious??

It was a robust defensive display that bore no resembalnce to the games against Ipswich and Walsall. I thought we were good, and we'll get better for sure.

It's weird, for all their possession I don't remember 25 shots?! Agree. Despite being under pressure didn’t think they threatened too much. UTG. Mines a Stella. A well watched push over the bar first half, a good strong hand down to his left second half Which was going right in the corner , some very difficult balls in to our box in both half’s that he had to dive- punch away because none of our big three Centre half’s claimed it and made it theirs ( a worry ) even though it was outside the 6 yard box, a header in to the far post that his positioning was perfect for and he made look easy , and the one on one second half where he spread himself well and the ball cannoned off him and away , And a power blaster that was going in to his top right corner he got fingers to and deflected on to the post ( I think ?) was probably his pick of the bunch. Yes we defended better today than against Ipswich but we could have got beat 5-1. Our defence needs better cover from midfield , I’m far from convinced by Grant he’s barley noticeable probably not as good as olly Clarke so far , Ogogo puts himself about much more and westbrooke looks tidy on the ball but when we haven’t got it goes missing and it’s all down to our 3 defenders who are all very square on without anyone doing the dirty work in front of them , I guess Grant is there for that but so far I haven’t seen it. Thing is our formation relies on us controlling the wide areas because most of our players are wide so when we lose the ball we’ve got westbrooke and Grant against often 3-4 players and they run straight through us. The goal was scored this way and also Jakos amazing save was from the same situation. My thoughts before today were that we need a midfield general who’s an experienced roll your sleeves up player and today strengthens that.

Spot On Socrates with all your thoughts especially on Grant and Midfield. Just to say that the Jakko wonder save onto bar was followed by a corner with a free header at back post which if Jakko had not got off the ground and covered was going in with Kilgour as a sightseer? we'll take the point and a pint!

Yeah I think That was the header at the back post that he made look easy , thing is if you’ve got a keeper that isn’t right on it in a defence that can’t defend corners and crosses then you’ll concede a lot of goals. JVS made some very good saves in his games and played well I was impressed with him and think his performances are improved on last last season, but when we conceded it was from crosses in to the box mostly , Jak Man saved all of those today he’s top class and will be off in the future, he’s been better every match than every opponent keeper pretty much since he arrived here. We might well have the best goalkeeper in league 1.

Yes. All the fans like Jakkola and it’s good to have him back from injury and a curtailed season. Blackman did a good job in his stead. Jakkola and Bonham, our previous goalie, are 2 of the finest keepers Championship down. Plus our loanees before them, Lumley and Roos play for QPR and Derby and no disrespect to them, I know who I would like between the sticks! Funny but we seem to have had some really good keepers lately? Not forgetting the great Andre Andre Andre Andre?

If the first half is a sign of things to come this season, then we will do fine.
Was a bit backs to the wall in the second half but we defended very well. Little probably had his best game for us. Leahy was decent. (I've always thought he was an ok wing back in this league). Harries look good too, has a lot of potential.
Hanlan showed promise and hopefully will improve his match fitness. Its nice to have a striker with pace. He will win a lot of free kicks as we saw yesterday with the yellow card that wasn't given. He will also get goals for us. Ayunga will be a good option from the bench. Had pretty much our only other shot at goal, he did well to beat the defender to get the shot in.
I thought Grant did ok. I think if we want to attack teams more, then Upson will be a better choice. I think this is also why Little got the nod because he is the better defender of our wing backs. Hare/Rodman will more likely play against the teams we will have more of a chance of beating and want to attack.

Next training session let’s hope he gets the strikers to put the ball in the net.
