Welcome Luke In predictable gaschat style written off within hours of signing Don't think anyone's really writing him off, just saying he probably isn't what we needed. Bit like going out to buy a new car, only to come home with a brilliant mountain bike. Not necessarily a bad purchase, but if you were planning to drive around Europe, it wasn't really what you needed. I don't understand why he is not what we need. He fits into the young energetic player BG wants at the club and can play in the 8 or 10 role something we dont have at the club at present. He could be the missing piece of the jigsaw no-one knows until we see him play.

Luke could be a very interesting acquisition if we revert to 5-3-2 formation, he looks as though (for a midfield player that he has a goal in him. The current formation for me is not threating enough in the final third..

Just because he’s young & people haven’t heard of him, it’s doesn’t mean he’s a poor signing. Like I said city fans at first we’re questioning the loan signing of Abrahams & within a few months he was the top goal scorer in the championship. True, but you’re cherry picking an extreme example of a best case loan, we had two from Chelsea under DC and they didn’t set the world alight so I’ve basically seen your Abraham and raised you a crap loan 😛 There is usually far more bad than good in the loan market, we know that ourselves and recently too with Tammy’s bother! Don’t think I am cherry picking besides Abrahams , Mason Mount ( Derby ) Tomori ( Hull ) Reece James ( Wigan) all loaned out to lower level clubs & now all feature in Chelsea’s first team squad.

Should someone maybe tell Ben he should sign an experienced league.1, commanding midfielder with a good few goals in him. Ideally with potential to become a club captain. He probably hasn’t thought of that.

Should someone maybe tell Ben he should sign an experienced league.1, commanding midfielder with a good few goals in him. Ideally with potential to become a club captain. He probably hasn’t thought of that. An experienced L1 commanding midfielder, who can score goals and has leadership qualities. That's what the other 23 L1 clubs want. I am sure BG don't need telling. If one becomes available within our budget, im sure BG will be on the blower. But realistically, that type of player will cost a few million unless he is available on a free. Either way, his wages will probably be too high for us.
So compromises has to be made. Either someone with less experience or doesn't chip in with goals or no leadership qualities. All of a sudden these types fall into our budget. This signing will fall under the less experience category. He has an eye for goal. He has captained his Chelsea side at youth level so would have some leadership qualities. What he lacks in experience, he should make up in hunger and he would have learned a lot from training with the stars of Chelsea. He would be well known to our assistant manager Jack Mesure too which will benefit BG.
If we have a few million spare or a big chunk of wage budget still available then yeah, lets go and get an experienced L1 commanding midfielder, who can score goals and has leadership qualities. But we don't have millions and a big wage budget available. So this signing is pretty much the next best thing. Not sure what the complaints from some are about.

Good interview!
Perhaps he will be more the kind of player we want. Wouldn't mind someone with some experience though!
Best of luck to him. Seems like a really down to earth lad and hope he does well.

Just watching motd from last night Brighton's right wing back Lamptey 19 years was signed from Chelsea's youth team, only pirate on here would know him, absolutely amazing player. So give this lad a chance

Going to be an inexperienced midfield at this rate! Could go either way. The more I think about this season the more I hope we hold our own and grow as a unit. This philosophy of developing young players could yield results but it won’t be quick. Have we got the patience?

We have just sold JCH for £1.2m plus shifted a few big wage earners off the wage budget, JCH, Sercs, OC, THD & Nichols so it's not as if we have no transfer funds/can't afford the odd decent contract.

Add in Rodman who will be in and out the side there is still a fair bit of experience in the club.

Why do you say that? Heard something?
BG said one, maybe 2.
You answered tour own question there! BG said he wanted 1, maybe 2 more signings.
We've just signed McCormick so on that basis, maybe 1 more.
Lionheart said he thinks there may still be 2 more incomings. I just wondered why he thinks that's the case.

Just when you thought we would get someone with experience in, and perhaps a striker. We get a player with 5 league games under his belt and yet another midfielder. What is Garner thinking?

that was my point, sorry I was being sarcastic but you forgot to mention the 25 goal a year striker - I think we need to mention that to BG as well as I'm sure he hasn't thought of it. Apparently there are several available within our wage structure, and they are all queuing up to join the Gas.
