So the game isn't about winning, its not about being exciting, it's about "Stats" f**k me how boring is that Boring to you, interesting to me. I don't think I said once that the game isn't about winning or being exciting I merely suggested that looking at Cian's stats (to me) indicated that he wasn't poor. Nice input though I'm a statman Ski-bi dibby dib yo da dub dub Yo da dub dub Ski-bi dibby dib yo da dub dub Yo da dub dub

Much more like it tonight looked scared of the ball at times on Saturday, but today put it right.

Tonight was his best performance in a rovers shirt to date. Ehmer and Grant are the two players I've been disappointed with during this early season period. I was expecting them to be the most solid and reliable of the rear gard but they both look very ropey most of the time. I'm hoping for much much better from these 2 from now and the rest of the season.

Ehmer was great tonight, worked hard, won fouls instead of giving them away, good positioning to break up the Shrewsbury attacks.
Apart from the Doncaster game, we’ve defended very well with him in the side.

Not harsh at all but it obviously is still 'early doors'. I think we just hold him to a higher standard given his pedigree, he's skipper and the clamour amongst us when he signed - compared to the underwhelm we displayed upon Baldwin's announcement (he, btw, has shut those doubters up so far) and Harries was signed a while ago and has barely played until this season. Ehmer is a good solid L1 defender and the type of CB you want when facing the JCH's of this division IMO (although he definitely does give away too many 'silly' fouls). I'm still not convinced with Baldwin if I'm honest, having seen every game he's played in so far. I've got some doubts about his distribution and aerial ability, would like to see Kilgour given another chance at some point in his place as I know he had a poor start to the season but he proved last season he can be a top defender when he's on his game. Same here. I think Alfie will win Jack's place eventually but for now, and after another solid performance tonight, Baldwin is there on merit.

I actually thought Baldwin was the best of the back three - won his duels and passed it really well.. Ehmer great goal line clearance but I didn't think he played well in 1st half. Harries better than Saturday but still wayward with his passing.

Ehmer tonight looked more like how I imagined he would be, just need a few headed goals from Zains crosses.

MOTM for me today, proper captain’s performance, put everything out on the line for his teammates.

Rubbish first half, I thought. Looked flat footed and they really should have scored from at least one of his mistakes. Pretty solid second half and the clearance off the line was an excellent piece of defending. Hopefully he continues to improve, but Harries and Baldwin are setting the standard at the moment.

He's looked alright against the likes of Northampton, Lincoln, Burton and Shrewsbury so a steady L1 centre half; which is where we are as a club. Kilgour and Harries will be playing at a higher level by the time they get to a similar age I would imagine though.

Definitely his best performance for us so far.
That goal line clearance was superb!

None of the four CBs have cemented their place in my opinion so far. But Kilgour has fallen behind the rest on his performances this season. I expect a few changes in the back 3 over the course of the season as all are capable but all are liable to a bad run.

Besides the EFL trophy, he's only featured 4 times this season and those appearances were against the division's top two attacks so far in Doncaster and Ipswich plus against Sunderland away from home, a game I thought he actually defended really well in. He will be chomping at the bit to get an opportunity to force his way back into the side again. It's good to have that competition.

Hopefully that is how the season goes - competition throughout the XI pushing everyone on. You'd expect Ehmer as captain to be a stalwart so Baldwin (with more experience but perhaps prone to low confidence streaks) or Harries (less experience) to be his main competition.
Worth noting that Kilgour had an exceptional season last year for a player of his age. Featuring less this year does not necessarily mean he can't be a huge player for us in the next few years. "One of our own" is usually a pretty vague phrase in the modern game but he clearly bleeds blue and white so I hope he can be what we all hope he will be.
