I do think Kilgour has been slightly unlucky. Besides the EFL trophy, he's only featured 4 times this season and those appearances were against the division's top two attacks so far in Doncaster and Ipswich plus against Sunderland away from home, a game I thought he actually defended really well in. He will be chomping at the bit to get an opportunity to force his way back into the side again. It's good to have that competition. Hopefully that is how the season goes - competition throughout the XI pushing everyone on. You'd expect Ehmer as captain to be a stalwart so Baldwin (with more experience but perhaps prone to low confidence streaks) or Harries (less experience) to be his main competition.
Worth noting that Kilgour had an exceptional season last year for a player of his age. Featuring less this year does not necessarily mean he can't be a huge player for us in the next few years. "One of our own" is usually a pretty vague phrase in the modern game but he clearly bleeds blue and white so I hope he can be what we all hope he will be.
Also the forgotten about Tom Davies, who I think is someone who could improve our defending of set pieces once he recovers from his injury. I was impressed with him last season up until his injury, not sure if he’s a player that would suit Garner’s way of playing out the back too well though. We’ll see.

Can anyone really see Kilgour getting into that back 3, unless it’s a forced changed? Regrettably he is extremely uncomfortable with the ball to feet and cannot find a pass for love nor money, especially when being pressed. I recall being mocked on another thread for singing Baldwin’s praises early on, yet him & Harries have been utterly OUTSTANDING. With what I would call, Ehmer’s best performance for us earlier tonight. Long may this trio continue with the giant Finn commanding behind them.

I admit I had forgotten about him momentarily. Both Davies and Kilgour looked best either side of Craig when they had the freedom to play a pass with the security of an experienced defender behind them I thought. Last year both had the potential to play from the back but both also had a mistake in them that gifted a chance to the opposition. Harries carries a similar risk.
Forgetting about a previously favoured defender like Davies shows the strength of our squad at the moment.

He’s pretty much in a straight battle with Baldwin, as I see it. Harries has been superb & is far and away our best left-footed CB, so he’s guaranteed that LCB role when fit. Ehmer is obviously captain & I imagine one of the first names of the team sheet for BG. So it’s between Baldwin & Kilgour to be the central CB of the 3. And unfortunately for Alfie, Baldwin is levels above him in terms of how comfortable they are with the ball at their feet.

Kilgour is a very good defender and just because he had a seasons worth of appearances playing hoofball doesn’t make him the finish article. He still lacks experience and can add elements to his game with time. Personally I think this time out of the side will do him good, ease the pressure and give him an opportunity to work on his overall game. It’s also combined with the fact we have 3 better defenders competing for places than we did last year.

Agree with all of that - still have high hopes for Kilgour & I’m sure he’ll step up a level or two when he gets back in the side from the early performances he gave.

It could do Kilgour the world of good as he know needs to improve is passing game, if he does, then it will make him a far better player, Lockyer seems to have reached his level at the bottom of the Championship due to the fact he never learnt to pass the ball. Although nothing is guaranteed in football and Ehmer or Baldwin could lose form/get injured/suspended, leaving the door open for Kilgour to return. I'm not sure how long Davies has left on his contract but if it's only til next summer then he may well need to find a new club/go out on loan in January.

Just wanted to say that I think Ehmer’s been fantastic since I started this thread, and I take full credit for his upturn in form.
You’re all welcome.

Who is next in line to get a bit of stick? Everyone in the squad has to take a turn at some point!!!

Every game is about winning. Benny boy likes to deflect any critism, by playing the possession card, I don't blame him for that, after all we do not create very much up front. The strange thing is, I quite like the attackers, while the bumbling defenders, in which I also include grant, while they love a sideways and backwards pass, do not have a very good first touch (I know, "if they were any good they would not be playing for BRFC", I get that), all in all, I think the new look bumbling defence will keep us up this season, and that's okay with me. Lets just get through C19 and hopefully next season when hopefully we are finally back on terrace, we can him fully aware of what we actually think.

Let me take you back to the car crash that was the league cup season opener where he was targeted relentlessly by the tractor boys & that abysmal piece of decision making Vs Posh just last week. I wish the boy all the very best, but you do not have to be Sir Alex to see he is 4th choice in this side.

In general I like to think I’m one of the more positive posters, airing my views of what I see on a matchday in a fair, balanced & constructive way. Yet I’m not going to hold back if I feel there is criticism to be made, it is a fans forum after all. AK hasn’t impressed me at any stage in a league meeting this season & of late I have called into question the showings of Josh Grant & especially Dave Tutonda. Not that I have to explain myself of course, I was merely concerned those toys were launched from the pram just a tad too far. I was also honoured that LP decided to dig out my particular post, in a poor attempt at starting his daily forum row. But we “dust ourselves down & go again”.

Agree to a point, but Alfie has been played at RCB and right back for the majority of the games he has started. He isn't a RB in any given Saturday so it would be hard to slate him for that. He's also mainly played on the left side of defence since he broke into the first team squad. He's now had to make way for Harries there since the start of the season. He's also having to adapt to Garnerball, having largely be trained under DC and GC where he was largely a hoof it or head it defender. As I said earlier, Kilgour is not the finished article, this spell will be a good learning curve for him, will make him a better player and I really believe he's got a great career in front of him. The manager just needs to play to his strengths and he needs to work on his passing game more.

I recently listened to the GasCast with Alfie and he is well up for developing the 'get it down and play' side as in his own words, this will allow him to play at the next level. I would therefore imagine him loving it right now as he is going to be developing what he really wants to further his career and is still there or there abouts in the first team. Cheers

(2) given this is an open forum we all have the right to make comment (3) I didn't mention Kilgour (4) It is factually correct that on 2 separate occaisions Harries has sliced the ball in our penalty area almost resulting in an own goal. (5) no one has to dig to find your posts. They are here for all to read. (6) If you think that commenting on your post, or even disagreeing with you is a "row" well thats entirely down to you. I say it as I see it if people dont agree well so be it. Suggest you grow your hair and enjoy some sounds from 68, the summer of love. Peace Man
