Never really warmed to GC, but I can't find any joy in somebody losing their job in these difficult times. Whilst I agree with the sentiment I would wager there are plenty more worthy of that concern than someone working in football. Coughlan will walk into a defensive coach role in the not too distant future and get paid a decent wage for it.

Plus he’ll be taking a good chunk of compo with him which will be a damn sight more than the minimum wage office workers or bar staff or zero hours contracts people will get.

We were tight at the back under GC but looking at Mansfields forum they have concerns with Menayese. A few of our own supporters have commented about Kilgour not having the most confident of starts. The missing link, Tony Craig IMO. You really do need - especially youngsters - an experienced head alongside you as well as instructions from the sidelines

Big mistake going to a basket case of a small town club who hire and fire as if they're a major European powerhouse.
Bad luck GC - you did a good short term job for us but Wael's long term vision meant the writing was on the wall.
Probably return as a no 2 or defensive coach - is DC looking for one?

Taken from Stagsnet:
"My summary of GC time at Mansfield No football No formation No idea Played off the park every game. Sold the better players Half the new signings are hopeless
Please leave before stags are in the national league"
Still.... Good news about the chocolate oranges.....

Good news about the chocolate oranges..... All a bit odd given the opposite seemed to be the case when he took over from DC! I guess Mansfield's owner, Radford, didn't really do his homework on GC and just looked at the results he'd achieved. It always did seem a strange move by GC.

Karma for what exactly? For keeping us up?

I can't be happy to see anyone be fired, but I can understand why some on here would find joy in his sacking.
GC did a fine job here and I bet he regrets leaving, but he wouldn't have lasted here with our owners long term plan.We are in a much better position under BG then under GC and that's incredible for me to say given where we were going an month ago under our manager.

Didn’t Ollie Clarke turn down our offer of a new contract because he wanted a new challenge and he liked Coughlan’s way of doing things? Bet he’s regretting that decision now. I might be wrong but I have a hunch that his contract offer with us wouldn't have been very good. He is not a BG sort of player at all. In fact far from it. You're right though in that he will probably feel very unsettled now. He couldn't have imagined BG to be out of a job so quickly. Menayese is in a similar boat too I guess.

Karma for what exactly? For keeping us up? Yes. GC’s results with us actually kept us up two seasons running. We should all be grateful for that, however it ended.

That was a long journey to Suffolk on that coach last december, to witness one of the best results in our recent history and wallow in sheer joy & jubilation upon leaving Portman Road. So purely the fact GC stole that from us all with his disgraceful actions post match, I feel most Gasheads can afford to let out a wry smile this morning. 0 wins in 12 games I am reading. The worst run in the clubs entire history. A penny for the thoughts of messrs Clarke & Menayese.

He said he was worried about always being the bridesmaid and never the bride. He did well for us when we needed a plan but his interpersonal skills were shocking and his total lack of thought for others shameful. I feel absolutely no upset at his demise as I think of the way Chris Lines was treated by him. Clarke and Menayese made their choices, Chris Lines was not given a choice!
Bridesmaid, Bride, Divorced!

Can't say I'm bothered about this either way. He kept us in league 1 and am grateful for that and his style of play was atrocious on the eye so him leaving was a blessing in my opinion in the long run. But in the short term at the time he left us whilst we had great momentum and fighting promotion and killed all of that dead with his decision. It was awful timing and pretty embarrassing. So the other part of me is glad to see he hasnt been a success.
As for Clarke and Menayese. They'll both be ok. Both good enough for league 2. Ultimately they might thrive under a better manager.

Speaking as someone that works away from home for several weeks at a time, I find it surprising how many people don't even entertain the idea of imagining what that might be like for someone.
GC said previously before he left that he found it difficult, the pressures of management coupled with being away from his wife and kids. I can sympathise with that. Some people can handle it, some can't. Some people have families back at home that can handle it, while others get grief from their family for not being there for them. Perhaps his situation at home became untenable?
Did GC make mistakes in his post match comments after Ipswich? Yes and I wonder if he might look back on that with regret. Did he leave at an unfortunate time? Perhaps, but even then I'd actually argue that he left the club in a far higher position than when he arrived, so he hardly left us in the lurch, despite his football being dour.
Essentially what I'm saying is there's a phrase of don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Those of you who mock him about being able to enjoy home cooking etc now that he's been sacked, I doubt have ever had to work in a high pressure job as well as having the pressures of not being there for your family for weeks on end. It does take it's toll on some people, and there's no shame in that.

He left us for personal reasons but look where we stood when he left. Near top of the league, sad day he left us. Hope he finds a good job soon, be great to have him back here

I do wonder if he regrets his choice now though? I am sure he will find another job as a number two or defensive coach. Unlikely to get offered another managerial job anytime soon.

Just think if he had stayed, and Rovers were promoted, we would be watching them getting hammered every game like the cheats.
