Hmm....follow government advice backed by their health advisers, or sign an online petition saying we would like to expose people to further unnecessary risk just for a meaningless game of football?
Jesus wept.

Appreciate there are a range of views out there. Mods, feel free to move as you see appropriate (if this is straying into politics).

Jesus wept. I know what you mean Hugo, but the benefit should of kids playing proper, organised matches is far more than it being just a meaningless game of football. My lad looks forward to training and the Saturday match all week, as do all his team mates. The Dads quite enjoy it as well, and sometime on the way home from an away we’ll stop and have a beer. The physical and mental benefit of the Saturday match experience, with, in the good old days a trip to the Mem, are beyond measure. As I say, I understand what you mean, but football and other mundane leisure activities are what helps us stay sane.

Mmm had they followed their scientific advisors we would have had a 2 week lock down around the half term...anyway must not get political... Kids and adults need to keep active for everyones mental health I say.....

It’s only a month, if we’re going to excuse social activities like football from it then we may as well not have a lockdown at all.
As much as it’s going to be tough on absolutely everybody, hopefully we will see the benefit of it with less cases, less deaths and more freedom to see family members over the Christmas period.

Much more of a better case for gyms to remain open.

Its easier to keep children 2M apart in a classroom than on a football field. Been a while since you were at school I presume! It’s impossible to keep 4&5 year olds apart And for their mental health I think schools should stay open And for their physical and mental health so should organised sport Either that or you enforce a TOTAL lockdown and everyone knows where they are.

Not my sport I will admit...but don’t understand why golf has been given the heave-ho in this new world we are about to enter. Ok, accept the social side/19th hole probably needs to go for now but surely out on the course you couldn’t be more distanced? 🤔 Anything that gets you safely out in the fresh air and feeling a bit better about yourself is surely for the better?

Don't kids still play sports at school now or is that a thing of the past?

What is meaningless is totally subjective. A lot more people will think Rochdale against Rovers is meaningless compared to those that think youth football is meaningless. To the children involved it is incredibly important. Additionally youth football relies on the hard work of volunteers to make it happen. They will have spent many hours coaching and organising teams. The leagues will now probably be abandoned meaning the hard work of the coaches and players will go to waste. Of course people’s lives are more important but I fail to understand how youth football can’t go ahead when the same kids are mixing at school.
I think there may also be a misconception of how schools are operating. At my son’s school all 1000 kids arrive at the same time, they do not sit 2m apart as totally impractical, they mix freely at lunch and break and they still do sports including football. This is going to lead to the daft situation where my son can play football on a Thursday afternoon in school and then a few hours later he will not be able to play football with the same kids on the same pitch. Bonkers.
As for the government and health advice ( not trying to get too political) decisions will always come down to money. If we really wanted to stop the disease we would close our borders and not allow anyone out there house. There is always going to be a cost balance on people’s lives. Don’t get me wrong I am not saying don’t do anything but politics and the economy are always going to decide these things.

Jesus wept. I go to Frome every Home game. The ground holds 4,000 they are getting around 280 to 300. So everyone has plenty of space ( and seats) tomorrow is their last home game before they have to go in to Lockdown. Many clubs will disappear if it goes on too long. And to the supporters of Frome the Game isn't meaningless. Can you imagine if the EFL said that due to the outbreaks of Covid at League One clubs, the EFL is closing down until December. They would never complete the fixtures

We're comparing education with a kick around. Bit of a difference. Nothing stopping kids have a kick around in their garden?

They would never complete the fixtures You've still got 200 to 300 complete strangers travelling to and from the ground using public transport etc, plus I doubt there's much control over social distancing inside the ground. If we're having to closeshopping centres and car showrooms, then I sense closing a non league football club for 2 hours a week is the least of the country's worries.

That’s not exactly fair when we are expecting them to cram into tiny classrooms at 30 per room! My point is you either lock down or you don’t. Kids are going to suffer massively over this pandemic and people saying it’s pointless sport and they can just kick around in the garden seem to be musing the point!
