So for our current stack of players... I think (from what I managed to google) the following contracts are up in the summer. Could we lose them in the January window or will they pen new deals maybe?
Jordi van Stappershoef Michael Kelly Alexis Andre Mark Little Luke Leahy Tom Davis Josh Hare Abo Ogogo Kyle Bennett Alex Rodman Ed Upson McCormick - end of loan Oztumer - end of loan and end of contract with Charlton
Who is a 'must look to extend' and who can we say thanks and good luck to? What do you think PT will do? Tough decisions ahead eh.
In terms of players coming in during the January window it's no surprise that our no.1 target will be another striker. Who is out there and willing? Will we splash more cash? will they just be a back up for our uninjured players?
Some rumours, option or shouts I have heard knocking around but not really taken too seriously are:
Jayden Stockley - Preston Billy Bodin - Preston Jordi Hiwula - Portsmouth (but free in Jan) Tristan Abrahams - Newport Joe Piggott - AFC Wimbledon Rhys Healey - Toulouse Paul Mullin - Cambridge Danny Johnson - Leyton Orient Max Watters - Crawley Matt Jay - Exeter Ryan Bowman - Exeter
What have you heard, what do you think?
Cheers

I dont anticipate there will much activity in the January transfer window in incoming players. PT has the potential problem of a fixture pile up with postponements and two cup competitions and will need to consider keeping cover for injuries/rotation before loaning players out. Signing a recognised striker who is going to play second fiddle to Hanlan will not be easy

We could be back in or near the bottom after this lay off with a big catch up needed. So I doubt we’ll see much change in January. Perhaps some of the squad who would be unlikely to play may be sent on loan or even sold, if they can. From your list I’d be looking to keep Upson and Leahy on current form but there’s a long way to go at the moment and April and May are a long way away. Things may well change by then. Wait until then and we will have a big clear out, imo. From your list Stockley would be the stand out player for me. I’d love BB back but you know what they say, never go back. UTG!

Wouldnt mind if all of those on your listed went but we retained LMc and Oz.
Of the potential transfer targets you have listed Joe Piggot would be a good signing. I read yesterday that Luke Thomas at Barnsley is available in Jan. Hes one player that would slot straight in at RW, fantastic footballer.

Wouldn't mind watching a team with Bodin on one wing and Nicholson on the other.

Bodin has not featured for Preston very much. He is recovering from yet another knee injury. He was great for us but I wouldn’t want him back now due to fitness concerns.

He has just had another knee op and will be out until late Jan.
Be interesting to find out his level. He’s clearly not cut for the championship any more, you need an athleticism which I don’t think his knees can cope with.
It would be a massive gamble (again) on him as much as I would love to see it.

The one good thing is that we got too many defenders / midfielders. If we can off load 2 players and get in one striker . I would be happy with our present squad.
The club must do everything it can to recruit a striker to support hanlan . I am sure Daley will come good with more playing time. So not a big ask..
Two out on loan to pay for one striker in on loan..

Would love to see stockley in our shirt. Mostly on the bench for Preston getting 10 mins here and there. Wonder what his relationship is with Tis.

Healey 6 goals in last 5 matches get the extinguisher!
We could try to sign him, which I doubt we would be able to, but we have nothing Toulouse;)

Do we really need another striker?
I say that as I don't think we will be bottom 6 or top ten.
If we make sure the squad get experience surely that will be better for next season?
With Walker and Nicholson, that is 5 players who can play up front. Then we have Warwick, Phillips and Hulbert as well. Between them if they had 2-3 games from the bench, that will be potentially very important.
I expect covid to still having an effect, with condensed seasons for the next two years - maybe with an emphasis on July ( Papa Johns group games?) to Oct and March to May, so large squads will be needed.
I would have wanted Andre Jnr back as well to see what he is like now. (Pre JVS v Plymouth).I heard the Walsall game was his first ever in men's league football. A huge difference to school and academy games. I guess he has now played about 50 games so hopefully that experience will make a huge difference.

If you gave me the choice of Bodin back or signing McCormick I’d go for getting Luke. Young and hungry, Bodin has hardly played since he left us and is injury prone. From what I’ve seen we would be in a good place to sign him permanently. I agree with other posters that we should be looking to develop Daly and Ayunga. Games with each other will put us in a strong position next season. Just got to stay in the division this year! I’m pretty confident we aren’t one of the worst 4 teams in this league! UTG
