Holloway was a superb player for us in the Twerton years. He had been given a second chance by the club, because he had been very ill and was languishing in Brentford’s? reserves. GF as he tells everyone every chance he gets, paid £10k to bring him to us. He’s never mentioned how much he got back when Holloway went to QPR; but that’s another story. It was, however, the second time he went for a better offer. I’ve no problem with a player bettering himself, but spare me all the chest thumping and badge kissing in the days before you go! I agree that the football was a joy for a while when he came back as a manager. I do think he was a bit limited tactically, I don’t think he ever managed to beat a David Moyes team, Pulis usually got the better of him as did Pardew after that iconic win against Reading. He had his best players sold from under him when that team broke up, and he was unable to replicate his success. His leaving is a topic for discussion. He says in his book he was sacked, Geoff Dunford says Holloway asked to be sacked. I know who I believe, and the speed at which he went to QPR as manager tells its own story. I remember when at Blackpool, an ex-pro, it may have been Hansen, said that in the second half of their Prem League season Blackpool who hardly get any points, because they had a very one dimensional style, and other managers would have worked them out. He was right, and they were duly relegated. Looking at the GTFC forum, the fans are furious with Holloway, calling him a coward, chancer and bottler. They suspect he bought into the club because he knew they were about to be bought out , and saw an opportunity to make himself some money. They have referenced Milwall and QPR forums, and they both have less than favourable opinions of him. It’s fair to say he’s hated by Milwall. I don’t suppose Plymouth or Leicester fans are that keen either. No doubt he will go back on the TV football shows as a pundit, and we Bristolians will have to squirm with embarrassment at his ‘professional’ Bristolian accent, his childish humour and sound bites, and hope the rest of the country don’t think we all talk like land-locked pirates. You seem to have a lot of dislike for Holloway and Francis but quite simply without them we don’t win that league title in 89/90. A bit of respect aye? Excellent point, I don’t care how much Gerry made out of the deal, that season was immense, and the follow up was pretty good to, he could walk on water including his ill fated comeback.

Is there any evidence at all he made cash out of the deal or is it another one of those “Rovers Facts”

I can't see that the misfortune of a true Bristol Rovers legend is anything to celebrate, its sad things did not work out for him there. I can’t really see anyone celebrating. He’s had a fantastic managerial career, plenty of ups and a lot downs. He does however insist on pushing the Holloway brand, it was funny for a while but got tiresome. I see first possible opportunity he’s turned up on Soccer AM, as I said pushing the brand.

To be fair he is not likely to turn down a gig is he? The fact he has been asked on would at least hint towards him still being current. Although current in a “let’s get funny sounding Ollie from Bristol on” sort of way rather than a “let’s employ him as a manager” way. Christ I am awful at English lit.

He said he had sold his house down here to move over to East Anglia. That’s a hell of a commitment and risk just to make a few quid. There are much easier ways if that was the intention and if it was a money making opportunity and had no intention of staying once complete why would you upsticks to the area. Makes no sense.
As much as Ollie can play a pantomime puppet and villain I do think he’s an honourable bloke who can just make mistakes. We have all made them and also in football you have to look after number 1.
So whilst Plymouth and Millwall may well question his loyalty, and the circumstances around his departure were acrimonious, they forget that a poor run of 10 games and the chairman of those clubs will likely pull the trigger on the manager anyway, so why can’t it work both ways when the managers stock is higher than the club he manages!
You can tell from his tweets Ollie was upset about something and the way he was treated and perhaps it was a good excuse to dismiss himself when things weren’t right on the pitch. I’m also pretty sure that resigning your post also forfeits you of any financial payment like you would get if you were sacked.

Like is said previously, the man is a parody of himself. He plays to the gallery and that’s absolutely fine. Just a shame a reasonably successful manager has decided to go down the route of being a rent a clown.

Personally i thought he was thoroughly entertaining on Soccer AM and he came across as someone who was relaxed, in his comfort zone and was just being himself. From the ‘interview’ sections i got the impression he is not too fussed about getting another managers job as he wants to concentrate on living the dream with his Mrs and do projects thats he wants to do. Not sure how that was ‘selling his brand’. If your morning wasn’t even temporarily brightened by his genuine joy and exuberance after getting top bin then i suspect you are in the minority.

I'd say we all push our own brand, every second of the day, with the words we choose, the actions we take, and the decisions we make. #philosophy

Utg Not fussed as he knows he's unlikely to get another manager's job given he's now set Grimsby up for a relegation battle.
