Excuse my ignorance - the famous win in the FA Cup over the Busby Babes? My dad claimed he was there - but he didn't take me. And I was around then.

What a fantastic Newspaper clipping - I'd not seen that before. Just shows tippy tappy football didn't work then, or now.......

Before my time too. Just wondering what the attendance was for the match. Our record attendance of 38,472 was in 1960 just surprised against Man Utd it wasn't higher. Bet trying to get your hands on a match day programme for this is rarer than hens teeth.

The link in the OP says 35872 Apologies and thanks the link won't open for me. No need to apologise. Here is the link content: Bristol Rovers 4-0 Manchester United (07-01-1956) On January 7th 1956, Rovers played what would go down as perhaps the biggest result in Bristol Rovers history. Performing well in the league and in a battle for promotion to Division One, Rovers played Matt Busby's Manchester United, a team by then nicknamed the Busby Babes, in a FA Cup Third Round Tie. Reporter Desmond Hackett described Rovers as the "£110 team with the million-dollar touch of class" in the Daily Express. This is in a song/chant by Ben Gunstone, called Tote End Boys. Bristol Rovers 4-0 Manchester United Biggs (2) Meyer Bradford (pen) (2-0 HT) at Eastville Stadium attendance: 35,872 Lineups Ron Nicholls Ray Wood Harry Bamford Bill Foulkes Frank Alcock Roger Byrne Jack Pitt Eddie Colman Denzil Hale Mark Jones Peter Sampson Jeff Whitefoot George Petherbridge Johnny Berry Alfie Biggs John Doherty Geoff Bradford Tommy Taylor Barrie Meyer Dennis Viollet Peter Hooper David Pegg

That's some cracking journalism as well. I love the passion in the language! Don't see that in the papers anymore!

..read the third paragraph of the news report More that it doesn't work now, just a really odd shout. I was just suggesting that tippy tappy hasn't really worked for us and picking up on the report making that comment 65 years ago for the great Man U, sorry.

What a fantastic Newspaper clipping - I'd not seen that before. Just shows tippy tappy football didn't work then, or now....... I admit I wasn't around then but I think the Busby Babes were actually quite decent with their tippy tappy. Pretty nonsensical comment. Anyway, that article is great. Even a quote from the ref nestled in there! Sounds like a fantastic game to have been at.

Thankfully I can say that I was there, standing on the open space just above the "Boys Enclosure" as it was called. It was an unbelievable day and result. I think the way the newspaper refers to the other team as "Manchester" rather shows how todays reports have changed as well.

Thanks for that Wimborne. I have some BEP, as was, newspapers from the 50s when we got to the quarterfinals v Newcastle and Fulham, but I don’t have that newspaper so thanks for posting it. Make sure for great reading. UTG!

Whatever happened to indirect free kicks ? I think what used to be refered to as obstruction is now just generally considered foul play, I'm probably wrong mind....

Bet trying to get your hands on a match day programme for this is rarer than hens teeth. In 1956 the ground capacity of Eastville was set at just under 36,000. In 1958 this increased to 39,000 due to the upgrading of the North side that included the building of the North stand. The Preston game in 1960 was all ticket and a 38,500 limit was set and the game was a complete sell out.
