www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55682445Whilst I understand some of the logic behind this I wouldn't have thought it a good idea at all. Tired players driving home after a game in the dark on an icy evening/night doesn't sound good to me. Hire two or three coaches to allow the players to keep apart, and they always in travel the same smaller 'bubble' group, would seem the better answer to me.

After traveling to lot's of away games in a car and remembering how stiff my legs and back get I don't think it's a great idea.

Initial thoughts is this is not a good idea for a number of reasons eg - how do you come off with potential breakdowns, players turning up at different times due to traffic/accidents (not theirs!) on the journey?
Maybe we are going to buy them all Bentleys or Rollers to make the journey better?
Although many years ago I do recall the Swansea team, when they were in the poop in the lower leagues, turning up in cars and not a coach and not being allowed in initially!

Better to just suspend the season till August, when we could probably all go back in a hopefully much safer environment.

If they travel up the day before then get an overnight stop then they should be fresh as a daisy. I do London and back fairly regularly in a day and at 39, I’m not tired after 250 miles and being on foot all day.

The article says:
Football is under scrutiny from the government and Public Health England with coronavirus cases rising.
Clubs have also been issued guidance by three major professional bodies within the game around player behaviour.
"We've got to be so careful," Tisdale told BBC Points West.
"We're even talking about now, for away travel, not having a team coach and going independently.
To me, that sounds like Tis is just talking about what is being discussed within the game and with the govt. It doesn't feel right to me that Rovers would be pioneering a new method of travel while all the other teams in the leagues carry on doing what they've always done. Feels like the reporter just got the wrong end of the stick.

"I think we were spooked a month ago when we had three or four cases in the club and a 10-day isolation. We came back from it and maybe we were spooked a little bit earlier than other clubs. We’ve been particularly careful. "We are playing football on a football pitch, so there are times when people bump into each other, but we’re out in the open. We’ve minimised everything we can do internally to the point where we report on the pitches, we get straight in our car and we drive home. "We’re even considering not going on a coach to travel to games with players driving their own cars. "We’re doing everything we possibly can, we realise how important it is to stay healthy and do our bit for the fight against COVID."

Just sounds like an idea has been floated, I’ve no issue with the club/management being in constant dialogue with the players to keep them both safe and happy.

Better to just suspend the season till August, when we could probably all go back in a hopefully much safer environment. Screams of an unnecessary and disproportionate response. Suspending football until August would be a disaster for the game and would have massive repercussions. I can't imagine players would be too keen on going six months plus without being paid, which is what you're presumably suggesting.

A considerable amount of people have had to down tools in lesser paid jobs. Remember all this started with the premiership whose lack of gate receipts were more than covered by the latest tv deal. No football on tv and the players don't get paid what is extortionate money. In turn this has meant that the lower divisions have joined in. Whether this is for the viewers mental health by having a 'normal' saturday is debatable and is football a necessary job? They are not key workers Regarding those whose lesser paid jobs have been suspended because of covid may I say thank you. Key workers always get a mention but no one has really publically said thanks to those who have been forced to stop. Those key workers who say they are at risk need to remember that a lot of these people would jump at the opportunity to take a checkout job if you don't want it. Sorry - went off on one then

Sorry - went off on one then Whether it's necessary is irrelevant when government guidelines state you can travel to work when you can't work at home. That's irrespective of key worker status. Let's be clear here, players aren't continuing to provide us with some entertainment and look after our mental health on a Saturday afternoon. It's their job, their career and rest assured a significant number of them would face a premature career change if the game suspended until August. Clubs would surely disappear too. Steps can and will be taken to improve safety, as per the theme of the thread, and players shouldn't have the right to make a living taken away from them based on an emotional reaction.

Some struggle to find a pass let alone a ground. How mamy would turn up on time lost or even forget the time of the game.then what about the ones who dont drive
Would be like Sunday league with a team of 7 and no kit

No doubt the car insurance industry pushing this and rubbing their hands with the thought of vastly increased insurance premiums.

What happens if a player is injured and can’t drive home?

After traveling to lot's of away games in a car and remembering how stiff my legs and back get I don't think it's a great idea. It does depend upon the car. I used to be on the road with my job and drove literally 100k a year at one point. i found it very taxing in a smaller car with a harder drive but when i afforded something a little more luxurious - like a Merc with plenty of leg room - i could step out of the car after a 3 hour journey and feel fresh within a couple of minutes. The difference was very marked. A few players have bigger cars and should be ok .

Young men, fast cars - can you imagine the speeding fines?!? There’d be enough points to see us in the playoffs!
