There's been a lot of talk this season about an inbalance in the squad, lack of an out-and-out goal scorer, and relying too much on youth.
Regardless of who comes in as the next manager, are the players capable of turning it around?

With additions in January we could have built on what we have. If the question is are these players alone capable of a mid-table position (which is what I would deem ‘good enough’) then the answer is no. A strike force of Ayunga, Hanlan and Daly isn’t good enough for league one and probably not good enough for league two either. I’d swap our conference strike force of Ellis, Matty Taylor and Nathan Blissett with the 3 of those in a heartbeat.
If we released every player at the end of the season, which ones would be taken on by league one sides? Hanlan, Nicholson, Ehmer and Westbrook on past glories perhaps?

The players are bound to be good enough under the right leadership. There are 7 basket cases in L1 making their own basket case relegation mini league. All we have to do is not be a basket case for a couple of months. It's such a low bar.

UTG If they have the drive and determination to succeed (that all successful footballers *should* have) then they will read this thread and think “right, I’m going to prove these arseholes wrong”. Challenging them is probably better at this stage than trying to keep them in a comfort zone by excusing the performances and results so far this season. They are picking up a fairly easy wage at the moment regardless of whether they win lose or draw. |

Yep they're picking up a wage regardless of the results on the pitch. Need someone who's going to bring a bit of fighting spirit. Don't want to go down with a whimper, the players are good enough. Just need someone to make them believe they are too

I think individually the players are of the requisite standard for League One, however collectively is a different issue. The imbalance in both attributes and personalities is costing us big time.

Like the poll suggest I am 50_50. On one hand I can't see us winning and feel self belief is drained .
However : I think Daly Nichs Hanlon on form could be enough . I don't think the defence is nor midfield. I do think we should gamble and use attack as our best option.
So I am sitting on the fence and hoping my theory of 3 attackers might make the side good enough to stay up.

Some are, some aren’t. I honestly don’t think Harries, Day, Hare, Barrett, Ayunga, Baldwin, Liddle and JVS are L1 level players and I think when we inevitably release and loan out players at the end of this season, we will see the majority go to L2 level clubs or below similar to last year.
The rest probably are L1 level players but the majority would only get into mid table or lower L1 sides. The other problem we have is that most of these are low on confidence or are underperforming, meaning we are doing a lot worse than we should be with the squad we have on paper.
Sam Nicholson and maybe Anssi Jaakkola are the only two players that every side in the division would be lucky to have on their books, just a pity that a winger and an injured Goalkeeper are the only players we can say that about at the moment. Big improvements needed in the summer.

The players are good enough imo. They have clearly underperformed individually and collectively but with a consistent approach to tactics and formation no reason why we can’t turn this around.

UTG I'm not bashing them. I'm asking the forum if - in their opinion - they believe this squad of players can win the relegation battle we are in. Perhaps I've phrased the question in a way that sounds like I'm having a go, and inviting everyone else to do so too - but that was unintentional. |

Yes the players are good enough,we just need the right manager who can get them organised believe in themselves and have the ability to man manage.
Play to our strengths and to forget the previous manager’s this is a fresh start for all.

Its consistency of performance.... Almost all of the players have shown they're good enough, unfortunately they only do this 20-25% percent of games.... Bar Nicholson most of them on an off day can't seem to have and average performance they have a mare....

IF the players aren't good enough doesn't that make a nonsense of PT's sacking. The only way to make any sense of both Garner's & Tisdale's demise is to assume that the Board thought that the players were good enough but that the respective managers weren't getting the best out of them.

The players are good and we have some really technically gifted players and some of the football between the boxes has been terrific. We just can't score enough goals or defend for toffee (perhaps the basics PT was referring to)
I can't see that changing enough to keep us up
