Perhaps if you went and stood on the bridge over the M5 you would be at a higher level and could see The Quarters properly rather than speculate on what you cant see or know about. For instance could you see what has been achieved before it was announced and being constructed in the middle of a pandemic? Some people can't or won't see the future until it happens then it's the present or the past Thanks for the advice, but I dont need to stand over the M5 to see what facilities we have. The wonders of modern technology. Before you or anyone else gets their knickers in a twist, I'm grateful to Wael for what he's doing with the training ground, but I stand by my comment on the comparison in reply to Topper, which wasn't a criticism but an observation. I've seen our barn converted gym and the new club house, which don't compare to what is on offer at Fleetwood. Again, not a criticism, just an observation. Fleetwood have seven top class grass pitches, two FIFA 2-star grade (the highest grade possible) 4G pitches, four red 5-a-side pitches, the first team and academy gym, plus a restaurant open to the public. [/div]
[/quote] The quarters site is only going to be big enough for the first team squad . All the extra stuff at Fleetwood isnt needed at the Quarters. 2 mem replica pitches Grass pitch 4G pitch Goal keeping practice area. Gym Other training areas for sprint training or specific tasks. Changing rooms Offices Treatment room Meeting/tactics room Canteen Car park Store sheds Caretaker residence. What else do they need ? The womens team and academy will have to go on another site. Its important the Quarters is geared towards the first team.

The academy needs better facilities if we are to meet Wael's aspirations of producing valuable young talent to make the club self sufficient.

The facilities listed above, once completed, will cover about 2/3rds of the site. The remaining space could take up to a further two and a half pitches (looking at the original 2001 plans). There is also space around the clubhouse to expand.
Wael's original plan was to co-locate at the Quarters so I presume the site is large enough, depending on what is needed.

For comparison, City’s site at Failand is about the same size as The Quarters. The difference is that four of their pitches are on land rented from QEH. Their new pavilion and 3 and a half pitches are on the bit that they own. There isn’t room on the land they own for a 3G pitch or covered pitch facility. There is room behind our gym to put another pitch(s) if required, so I think you’re right to say the academy could be included in time.

As I understand it there were always plans for the academy to be at the quarters, just not immediately. It was all about getting the first team up and running there with the U23s later and then gradually phasing in the rest of the set up.
I think some are totally underestimating the scale and cost of the project and also how long it will take to develop it.
So far we have put the essential ingredients in to get the first team operating there, even that isn’t complete. What would be commercial suicide is building something and then having to change it within 18 months 2 years because it’s not working.
I have no idea what’s been spent so far, but I bet it’s in the region of £4m which is the biggest investment this club has had in years which is seen as a long term benefit.

As seeing the plans they had they only had a couple of pitches which wouldnt take the wear from the amount of use. Using a neighbouring site makes sense now. Maybe Rovers could purchase/lease some land the other side of hortham lane as extra pitches (?)

Meanwhile on the playing side we're facing a massive relegation battle because we failed to sign 2 oe 3 of players in January!!

Why are we comparing a £10M training complex to the Quarters?

Would not be surprised to see Tomlinson in the squad for tomorrow.

Voluntary (Expenses) basis. From what understand the scouting set up is miles behind our beloved rivals. I know a scout from Bridgwater who is part of the junior club my son is at and I help out at and he was scouting for Rovers when I 1st met him. Not long after he left the Rovers set up to link up with City as they would pay him expenses to go and watch junior football where Rovers would only pay you if a player was recruited to the academy. We are losing scouts all the time due to the fact there is nothing in it for them and this needs to change quickly if we want to build a successful academy. So much for TW having set up a scouting network then.
