City will likely get it right one day, whether we like to admit it or not. Their stadium, training ground, Pantsdowns wealth, its all there. Ourselves will only ever compete with once we have a new ground. It will always hold us back from being anything more than we are. Stay at the Mem and it will league 1 our limit. As a city are probably on a par with Nottingham and Stoke, based on league standings of the clubs. The others wayyy more successful, with both teams having made it to the top flight. Our only hope is that we get it right ourselves before they do. Clock is ticking. Covid (lockdown at least) almost over from a UK perspective. Time to take them stadium plans off ice.

our problems began when we sold eastville stadium and ended up paying the greyhounds rent but probably it started before that it has taken generations to overcome this and we havent even recovered from it today! we are fooling ourselves if we think we are a big club big clubs dont sell their best players to survive.

Stadium NEEDS to happen, training ground is nice but doesn't take us to the next level on the pitch. I really hope that things going on in the background and we see something visual very soon. I want to se Wael standing in the middle of Bristol holding an A2 piece of paper.

We’re not a big club, we’re a lower league side who’ve never won a major trophy.

Eastville should have been the Wembley of the West...huge site, road and rail links...as a site it had everything. It could have all been so different. Error after error and opportunity after opportunity missed.

These days nine times out of ten you need money and the facilities to get into the championship (I say nine as I look at Wycombe as the odd exception that we see from time to time) although saying that, even their ground is far better than ours

Error after error and opportunity after opportunity missed. Very true, a superb site. But once we’d sold it in 1940 it’s future was out of our hands. The building of the M32 was the death knell - massively more attractive for development and far more money to be made than from renting to a third division football team.

Oxford, Wimbledon, Luton, Oldham and a few others all got to the top flight with small, not very 'Fashionable' grounds. It doesn't happen now. Brentford(Now moved to a new stadium)and Luton(New stadium in the pipeline) got to The Championship in grounds that are similar to The Mem capacity wise, but unless you have something that can bring in revenue from other sources other than Football, is just doesn't happen anymore in the modern era.

Let's be honest the Mem is a hard sell, I imagine we try to skip all conversations about the Mem when in negotiations with players. But imagine the attractions and the pride you would have giving a player a tour of a 20-30k seated stadium with modern facilities. I must comment of how bad the Mem looks every time I watch a game on iFollow. I can't be the only one.

This debate comes up on a regular basis ,'the green eyed monster' ! If you are measuring status purely by material 'wealth' then there is no debate but there are many ways you can measure 'wealth' richness, and whatever . I know for a fact that fans of other clubs regard Bristol City as 'cash rich' but Rovers as the richer club on many other scales, it is difficult to explain but most Rovers Fans will know what i mean. I have watched rugby at Ashton and i am impressed with the set up but not jealous in any way, yes i would like a better stadium but would be happy with a 14- 15000 redeveloped Mem, enough for our needs imho. Has the material wealth made City Fans happy? well if you listen to them on G/T post match most Saturdays, far from it! they are worse than us lot at moaning! There was one on the other week , so called 50 year fan ,who said it was the worst time ever! really,? they have very short memories, 4th division , bankruptcy and all that! For all there material wealth they are not that far in front of us on the pitch. Someone will no doubt be able to check, but i would not mind betting that take away Cities 5 game winning opening to season and substituting the points average from the rest of the season instead then they would be in, or very close to a relegation place! I am proud to follow Rovers , proud of our fans who stuck with the club through all sorts of 'crisis'. Twerton, National league, and the rest and i do not look across town with envy, but with pity for 'poor little rich kids' who have everything but can not find happiness, up the Rovers!

To be fair you get the same with our supporters. Quite often found moaning at being mid-table in L1, when only a few years ago we were in the Conference. It's all relative. All supporters of all clubs will never be ultimately satisfied, as success is like that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It's always sought, but when it comes it is always fleeting. We all yearn for a swanky new stadium, I absolutely do. But if we ever get one, the novelty will eventually wear off, and we'll be back to moaning again soon enough.

And now the "experiment" to train and sell good players (an experiment gone hopelessly wrong) wont see us in the Championship in my lifetime

Error after error and opportunity after opportunity missed. Could have been great and I wonder 'what if' we managed to negotiate an extension what the Penrice/Martyn money could have done. All hypothetical though, as we'll never know if things would have panned out the same way. Regardless though, building Tescos was probably the final nail as the owners never really had any interest in us staying iirc. We'd have to have left at some point.
