So of the two club cities:
Bristol Nottingham Birmingham (strictly speaking) Sheffield Liverpool Manchester Stoke
- are we the worst of the lot in relation to our neighbours?
Manchester obviously has two successful clubs. Everton always behind Liverpool but have had their moments. Sheff Utd and Weds seem to hop around each other. Villa bigger than Birmingham City but not always the case. Stoke have always outperformed Port Vale. Forest have traditionally been miles ahead of County and especially so now.
But in terms of stadium, wealth and potential to match their neighbours, are we in the worst place? Usually no more than one league apart, we seem to be drifting further apart, although I'm sure Notts County and Port Vale fans would be much happier with only a one-league gap.
Discuss. If you want....

If you want.... I guess you could argue Stoke and Nottingham, both are in lower leagues than us , but both their grounds are far better than ours, for some reason I really like Port Vales, wasn’t it originally going to be designed as the Wembley of the North? We are definitely drifting away, any club that gets promoted to the Championship will struggle just to stay in it due to the wages paid, possibly bar Sunderland if they went up due to the owners and possible income there.

City will likely get it right one day, whether we like to admit it or not. Their stadium, training ground, Pantsdowns wealth, its all there. Ourselves will only ever compete with once we have a new ground. It will always hold us back from being anything more than we are. Stay at the Mem and it will league 1 our limit. As a city are probably on a par with Nottingham and Stoke, based on league standings of the clubs. The others wayyy more successful, with both teams having made it to the top flight.

Notts County fans would probably argue they are a bigger club. Founder members of the world's first Football League contested in 1888/89. Won the FA Cup. 30 seasons spent in the top flight. Bigger record home attendance. Bigger and better stadium.

At present we are bigger than Notts County and Port Vale with regards to positions in the leagues and also attendances in the past ten years at least.
Their stadiums are obviously much better than ours however a lot of people keep banging on about us having a new stadium to push us forward but we got to the second tier when playing at Twerton and got close with Holloway at the current stadium.
A lot of clubs have got there without the physical structure behind them - Bournemouth a prime example and Oxford with the terrible Manor ground and current three sided Kasam both with very low capacities.
