Ed Upson 450 odd games in the Championship and League 1 Aka ‘not good enough’
Ed’s been a fantastic servant to the club, signed on a free, consistently one of the first on the team sheet under 5 different managers, scored some great goals, breaks up play well, keeps us ticking, best passer of the ball at the club... I good go on and on...shame he’s a scapegoat for a few gasheads, but they clearly don’t understand the defensive midfield role he’s been asked to play. If he was even a fraction as bad as some on here like to make out, do you think Coughlin, Joey, Tisdale etc, would have played him time and time again? You can’t blag your way in football. You have to prove yourself week in week out. If he does leave in the summer, I will look back on his time here with us with fond memories and would certainly thank him and wish him well for the future.

The fact he's started so many games this season just proves how little strength in depth we have in midfield.

We are indeed - everything is academic , until we either in some way modernise what we already have . Or build a new stadium . I’m not hopeful of either 🤔😩 There is a degree of delusion of course. For much of the past twenty years have we really been that far in front of any team in L2? We did gain some momentum in 1996 when we moved from a victorian relic of a stadium at Twerton to a half built rugby stadium, albeit one with loads of scope and space for expansion. Except we sold the land for housing development. In 99/2000 we had a team worthy of promotion but let that evaporate by not replacing key players when injured. So here we are 25 years after the move from Twerton in a shambles of a stadium and cursed with a shambles of a team, now relegated. I would put it to you that not only are we not any better than any L2 team on and off the pitch, but barely classifiable as professional. Apart from the amount of money P?!sed up against the wall. Depressing Was it Bristol Rugby who sold the land for housing at the time when we were their tenants?

The fact he's started so many games this season just proves how little strength in depth we have in midfield. He looked decent in pre season games. Maybe thats it, pre season and training he performs like Pirlo, but when it counts he looks like he has been on the Merlot? Generally has one good game in 8 at a push. Not good enough

My prediction is that we will see him at the Mem next season - playing for an opposing L2 club.
No doubt he will have the game of his life and we will wonder why he never did that for us.

I really like Upson and appreciate what he brings to the team. Can totally understand why he’s racked up a huge number of professional games at our level and higher. He’s a very good defensive midfielder. A highly important role which many fans don’t understand, as they don’t make the headlines of marauding attacking midfielders. Upson plays consistently well, which goes unnoticed by fans but not by managers, hence why he has played 100+ games for us in three years.
