Yes, had it confirmed to me that Coles is gone and Barton’s bringing in the GK coach from his Fleetwood days. Really? Fleetwood Town can confirm David Lucas will leave the club at the end of the current season after eight years. The goalkeeping coach has accepted an exciting new role at a Premier League club and will therefore depart Highbury Stadium in May. Lucas arrived at Fleetwood initially as a player in 2013 before becoming goalkeeping coach under the boss Graham Alexander. Andy Pilley, Chairman of Fleetwood Town, said: “We’d like to thank Dave for his service to the club, he’s a hugely popular member of staff. “Everyone at the club is delighted he’s been given an opportunity in the Premier League and it was something we’d never stand in the way of. He will leave this summer with our thanks and best wishes.” The club will now begin the process of recruiting for the role of Head of Goalkeeping. www.fleetwoodtownfc.com/news/2021/april/david-lucas-to-leave-town-at-end-of-the-season/

People having a melt down on here! It could be for lots of different reasons. Perhaps Ansii been offered a goalkeeper/coach role? Maybe to save money now we've been relegated?

Saying Coles has been sacked because of a cost cutting exercise is going to prompt an even bigger meltdown now.

We dont want reasoned and thought out ideas. Personally I'm in the process of burning an effigy of WAQ in protest against letting someone, I know nothing about, leave the club.

Since he left City in 2019 he has had three jobs. Forest Green Rovers, England under 18 and us. Perhaps three jobs in eighteen months tells its own story? After all there are always two sides to every story.

I guess it's only a matter of time before the other pre-Barton coaches leave as well?
By the time we get back to The Mem we won't recognise anyone walking accross the pitch before a game, I wonder when Joey will start on those around the boardroom table?

Manager wants his own backroom team and ex colleagues of outgoing employee say what a good bloke and coach he is. If this had happened at the end of any other season would anyone really have cared ? I have no idea if Coles is a good coach nor whether his replacement will be any better but I personally don't see it is as a big deal, surely every manager chooses his own backroom team and plenty move existing staff on to bring them in.

Joey Barton, rightly or wrongly wants all his own people. Not particularly earth shattering found it interesting that one of of the comments on linked in was from someone who said it was "interesting talking to some of the senior Fleetwood players". (basically in relation to Joey's character) I redacted part of the comment, because even though I am hardly a fan of JB, I wouldn't feel comfortable or feel it appropriate to post part of it at any time let alone Mental Health Awareness Week

Maybe we could make an offer to Martin Thomas, to come out of retirement?

I think Coles is exceptionally rated and well liked, but we are all jumping to conclusions here. It could simply be family reasons like in Feb, or it could be his decision or even Joey's. We don't have a strong enough lead on it yet, so whatever we speculate is purely pointless.
Whatever the case may be, I wish David all the very best and I hope whoever Joey brings in will be able to gel into whatever vision he holds for the future.
