I can’t help but wonder what level of budget we have & how the BoD and manager plan to shed us of the deadwood, to afford this new striker. I don’t even know the financial rules tbh. Anyone know please ? The rules before the League One and League Two salary cap was scrapped are outlined here: www.financialfairplay.co.uk/scmp.php"FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity. Loans from club owners are understandably not included in the Turnover figure as these would result in growing up club debts. In League 1 and League 2, a wealthy owner can therefore fund the club spending in a way that is not permitted in other divisions" Thanks pirate. Very much appreciated

It seems to me that it's logical to start the rebuilding of the squad with the defence and the midfield. To attract the type of forwards we want (skilled and ambitious) they need to know they are joining a team who won't leak goals and will create lots of chances...

I'm still worried about the lack of pace in defence.

When was the last time we bought in a proven goalscorer in the level we’re playing at? In 2006 we signed Rickie Lambert in L2 when he had just scored over 20 goals in a season for Rochdale in the same league.. Yeah exactly and that turned out to be a great success, I think it’ll take something similar this season from us to be competing.

I'm still worried about the lack of pace in defence. Was wondering what we are going to be doing about that - Pabs fast?

Definitely need an injection of pace as the squad just seems, well, a bit slow for me. Every team ive seen lately seem to move the ball a lot quicker to create chances. We are so slow the opposition have time to get men behind the ball and nullify our rare attacks

Not aimed at you but can anyone on here provide a list of realistic, proven at this level, regular 20 goal a season players who could form a short list? It might make some realise this is going to be difficult - certainly harder than a computer game that many think on here !!! Bang on mate... the list that I put together the other day wasn't really inline with your ask of regular 20 goal a season but as far as some goal scorers it may be a start James Norwood Paul Mullin Conor McAleny Brett Pitman John Akinde Edit: Do you think that a full Joey Barton pre season could bring Ayunga/Hanlan into the realms of bagging 15+ Goals? After the way Hanlan started it's pretty poor that he didn't go on to get 15 goals.

I'm still worried about the lack of pace in defence. Same. Don’t fancy our chances at being successful playing a high press with Hughes, Kilgour, Baldwin etc. as our CB options. Maybe JB’s going to abandon the press and we’ll sit off a bit more next season...

I'm still worried about the lack of pace in defence. A very good point. It all depends on the formation Barton decides upon for next season of course, but a central defensive pairing of Hughes/Kilgour or Hughes/Harries looks vulnerable to quick forwards on paper.

Really hoping that the likes of Harries / Baldwin even Williams are nowhere near the match day squad next season.

Harries can be persevered with in my opinion, young enough to improve and left footed which is a bonus, whether I would want him starting every week is a different story.

Normally I’d agree with you supergas, but we did that last year and stopped before we got to the forwards. 😉 Lets hope we finish the recruiting this year! UTG!

He did ok coming into a complete mess of a squad with no confidence. He looked tidy at the start and did as well as anyone else in defence imo. Surrounded by better, more determined players I’m sure he’ll do ok and get better. UTG!

Certainly a position I'd look to upgrade if possible.

Certainly a position I'd look to upgrade if possible. Like most he got worse as the season ended but the other defenders were far worse, imo. That he played nearly every match tells me that JB thought he was less crap than the others who he swapped around regularly. He always looked better when Nicholson and Rodman were in front of him but like so many positions we never had any type of partnerships or pairings that worked well and as a FB I think Williams might have suffered more. I certainly won’t lose any sleep if he’s not in the starting 11 in August but with better players around him I think RB is a position needing less attention than many other positions currently. And perhaps it’s obvious but we can’t replace a whole squad with new players so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the team when we kick off next season. And his experience of being in a successful League 2 team shows he can do it in that league. But I bet you’re in the majority and I’m in the minority in this opinion after this season! 😉 UTG!

Anyone know please ? KP.. I'm guessing the budget that will allow us to shed more of the deadwood still under contract and secure a half decent striker will be significantly increased by the potential sell and trigger of JCH's sell on clause. Obviously no guarantees, but I'm sure the possibility would of been discussed.. .
