If there is one thing I have learnt following Rovers over 50 years is we never quite know the whole story. I wish Max all the best, probably best for both parties and looks like one our recruitment process didn't get right. Are you suggesting that Rovers don't always get recruitment right? How dare you, sir!

Yes, likely a small pay off if any in order to be released for nothing to sign for Gills. UTG! He had us over a barrel in a way , not wanted but still a year ( ?) left on his decent contract ( according to Gills manager) . We wanted him gone , he probably wanted to go as well so we have to give him a lump sum to go . Gills can pay him a similar deal to what he had before for them but it’s topped up by the lump sum 3-6 months from Gas . Player no worse off , Gills happy , Gas relieved. Jobs a good un . Yes, I suppose he did but at his age he needs to play as well and what’s happened suits everyone. He’s gone, that’s the main thing. UTG!

The one thing I can’t contemplate about last seasons transfer activity was who signed off on it all and thought it was a good idea? If it was Wael, he’s shown his inexperience in English football by letting Garner assemble his unbalanced, lazy, naive and unmotivated squad of which Ehmer is a prime example. I heard the other day that he was involved in Daly’s departure from the club? Hope Wael takes a step back next season and leaves it to the people that actually know what they are doing. In fairness this time las year most supporters think we had assembled a good squad, it didnae work out that way, but that’s football. Bj every signing is a gamble, even sir Alex and Harry Redknapp had some Westons, this time last year a few on here thought HMS p#$$ the league was about to set sail. He sunk we sunk let s move on UTG

A Payne-esque response from Ehmer there having a dig One of the worst Rovers players of all time. Well paid, couldn’t be assed, so bad he had to write a written apology to supporters (before Joey, one should add). His attitude got us relegated then he got a pay off to go with it. Why does he require our sympathy?

Wish I could turn up to work every day and go through the motions for a decent wage.
Its just a shame some of these guys never got to hear the fans opinions first hand at the mem.
Those who manage to cling on to their careers here going into next season need to show us they want to be here as an absolute minimum.
If you arent 100% in, get out.

The mystery to me was how he was described as a leader and a natural captain - particularly as none of the management had worked with him before.
I am usually tolerant of people when things do not work out but Max has showed a glimpse of why things went so wrong.
Lets remember that he was given a substantial pay rise to join the Gas. He has left today and there is no sense of regret that it didnt work out - just some snide comment that it is good to be playing at a "proper place for football".
Whilst it is true that he may not have got on with JB - he also failed to successfully deliver for Garner and Tisdale. The only reason that he is being managed by JB is because the team he captained got the 2 previous managers sacked . This was managers who backed him and trusted him to lead their team.
The Gillingham press is welcoming him home like some prodigal son and to read his comment you would think that he has been wronged . it is Bristol Rovers who should feel hard done by as they have paid him £150k for captaining a team that got relegated and for personally falling short of giving his best efforts for the cause. He let his team down for heavens sake not the other way round.
This raises another question though
We constantly read about how important it is to get the right characters in the dressing room so how did we get this one so wrong? What were we doing handing the club captaincy to someone that we didnt know and expecting him to lead an inexperience and young team? Last years team deserved better leadership than they got.
When you look at the changes that Michael Appleton made at Lincoln - one of the first was to bring in mature leaders that he had worked with before . JB has now done the same.
Max has now gone and good luck to him. Lets get back to rebuilding the team and learn a lesson from this

I know it said we terminated the contract, but then he resigned for Gillingham quickly. So hopefully we came to an agreement and paid up part of his contract, not all of it!

Good luck Max Why shouldn't he get stick? Showed absolutely no effort, leadership, desire or basic defensive abilities yet has a benefitted financially out of the move at our expense. Football is crazy when the likes of Ehmer will playing in L1 next season and hardworking players with ability like Nicholson and Rodman will be in L2.

“I had a text from Max the other night saying he is looking forward to coming home and he intends to show the fans just how committed to the club he is.
"It will be wonderful to have him back. He's a leader, a great lad and a great professional.”
This was a tweet from the Gillingham Chairman a few hours ago.

Not sure how anyone can get upset over his small ‘dig’. This is the guy who was publicly humiliated and hung out to dry in a way I’ve rarely seen before.
Maybe he feels a club that does that to their own isn’t a ‘proper place to play football’.

Wael...”All decisions regarding recruitment/playing staff will be made by Joey and his team” except that he personally wants to arrange James Daly’s exit? Yeh right! And yet there is a way that Wael can legitimately have been involved and it still have been JB’s call. Firstly as has been expressed on here, certain in-contract players were told their playing time was likely to be limited and they could leave on a free or expect to be loaned out. JB suggests to Wael that if he is having discussions with owners / chairmen of any L1 or L2 clubs (probably zoom calls) he could slip into the conversation that we’ve got a couple of lads for whom it hasn’t worked out in Bristol but might well deserve another shot at success at their club if they are interested. Much more likely for Wael to have facilitated an exit JB wanted than to stand on his toes and make squad decisions independently from his manager.

Essentially we were the “other guy”.
Ehmer was having a contract tiff with Gillingham. Gillingham wouldn’t commit to him, so Ehmer found a new boyfriend - Bristol Rovers. Bristol Rovers, he didn’t feel much attraction for but Rovers treated him like a queen and hung on his every word, and plus it was a way of getting back at Gillingham. Regardless, his stint at Rovers was just a revenge type thing and his first love was Gillingham.
As soon as Gillingham was available again, he was off like a shot and left Bristol Rovers a broken man, just being used as a temporary solution to the long term love interest and affair between Gillingham and Ehmer.
Rovers are now significantly worse off and will spend the next year depressed and dejected. Gillingham, however, have behind closed doors actualllt now paid for an engagement ring and will bend the knee (in the non 2021 sense) in the coming weeks over a candlelight dinner. Eventually leading to marriage and 3 beautiful centre halves.
Seen it too many times.

Disinterested and unprofessional, first nail in the coffin was naming that clown as captain. Bizarrely voted in as captain by the players - one of Garner’s odd decisions. Hang on, that one passed me by. Are you seriously saying that Garner held a vote as to who would be elected as team captain? Uncle Ben was worse than even I thought and that’s saying something.

Thanks for that Jomo. I had no idea and actually found it astonishing that players got to choose who they wanted. Reading that BP article is embarrassing knowing now what we know. I knew he was full of sh*te but underestimated how full.

Here you go again! Another dig at Wael. Right this time let's hear your source! We all know that won't be forthcoming so why don't you just bugger off and give us all a rest from your constant bashing of the club's owner.
