Forgive me if it has already been posted on here. I see the compensation we have to pay Gillingham for his services is £150k. Apparently Gillingham left the hearing very disappointed. They were hoping for something in the region of £750k to £1 million.

I probably mis-posted in the transfers section but probs worth his own thread as then people can debate it so good shout pal.
Personally feel that 150k is a good price for us. We (Ben and Tommy) got the tactics wrong with him, expecting him to transition from winger to a TARGET MAN type center forward with a disrupted preseason and in fact if I recall we got him at the end of the window so literally no preseason with Rovers to bed him into the role.
I for one am really looking forward to seeing a different Hanlan this term and maybe even playing wide forward with more room to get at the defenders

I still think he could come good for us. He started last season well, yes 2nd half of the season was poor but who actually impressed (other than McCormick)? I think at one point he was being run into the ground with the amount of games he was playing and there was a lot of pressure on him to score the goals. To come into a new team and be expected to be the main man when you haven't exactly got a proven record of being prolific anyway can't be easy, especially in such a mess of a team. Good luck Brandon, we're all behind you.

Absolute joke that it should take so long to come to this decision. I have the feeling that by the end of this season this fee will be an absolute bargain. Unlike some I have not forgotten his form pre Christmas when the service he received was so much better than after Christmas. Give him the ball to run onto and he will tear teams apart.

In all honesty in a team of hopeless underperformers last season, both Gillingham signings were my least favourites.

Yes agree with the comments on here .... I think BH could come good for us and suddenly we have excellent value for money.
Yes his touch was poor but he was injured for a good number of games and ran himself into the ground. We saw glimpses of what he can do and with the right support around him could score plenty more.
Crack on now Brandon show us what you can do.

Paul Scally really is a twit at times.
If we had beaten off clubs like Ipswich, Portsmouth and Championship clubs like Sheff W and Bristol City who are capable of paying that kind of money for a player, then its highly likely Rovers would not have signed him anyway as Hanlan would have preferred them over us any day of the week.
I think Gills have done well to get £150k for a player that was out of contract. Personally I think £150k is a good value for Hanlan. I think with the right management, the right support and coaching, and the right players around him he will be a big player for us. Looking forward to seeing what JB can get out of him.

If he’d kept his goal scoring form going his atrocious ball control, and inability to stay on his feet could have been forgiven.
Maybe he will be let free a little in a lower league and a better balanced side but I have zero expectations and would not have been disappointed if the agreement was for him to go back to Gills + 50k payment.
Perhaps low expectations mean I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

It's a pretty fair price imo. Hope he comes good and I believe he can if retained.

Pretty happy with that, could have been a bit of a disaster if they'd stuck a 500K price on him. Hopefully now, with less pressure on him we'll see some of the promise he showed under Garner. Still think both and Ayunga will have decent seasons as part of a much more balanced side.

I think in fairness to both Hanlon and Ayunga last season there was any number of reasons why things didn't work out for them both last season.
I hope we might have some consistency in tactics/selections this year and start to build a squad for the future and not one that needs an overhaul at every transfer window. I am sure our constant turnaround of players and managers will have an effect on recruitment and with these two already here hopefully season 2 will be better for them and us.

As a few others have said , he was showing great promise when playing wide and running at defenders with pace, scared some to death often earning free kicks in dangerous areas and even the odd penalty, suffered by being asked to carry the burden of front man on his own , never hid and always gave his all, think he will come good this coming season and be exciting to watch, good luck to him.

It's because, on the whole we were terrible. Strikers need a strong defence which enables them to take more risk by creating a solid base. A decent midfield to create opportunity and chip in. Also confidence. Any striker which manages to do well in our side from last year would get purchased by another club.

We have bolstered our attacking options and brought in solid midfielders capable of winning the ball back and holding it when needed. Depth is still missing though and some actual bodies in key areas but in terms of solid foundations for midfield and attack we are looking better. Central defence is looking good with some taller guys coming in. Still need to address the fullbacks but have time.

I agree, we seem to be a right back short of a decent starting XI with some promising youngsters coming through (hopefully). It's good options from the bench we seem to need, plus a couple of key positions as competition and cover (GK, striker for example).
