Meanwhile....... Jonah Ayunga scored 2 goals today for morecombe already ffs good on him though Hadn't seen that. He is actually a departure that I was not 100% happy about. Yes against Kendal town, Northern premier League Division one West side( whatever level that is). Morecambe!_won 4-1. League two side Carlisle beat Kendal 6-0 in their last game.

Please can we go all out and buy a striker, I don't know who, just one that knows where the back of the net is. Absolutely right, we need a lethal predator in the team and a different approach to our forward play I have only heard the name Pitman mentioned, but he is 33 going on 34 Exactly what we need, a wiley old pro who knows how to be awkward to play against and decent at set pieces.

Did Nicholson say anything in commentary about when he will be fit to play?

Cheers mate that’s good news - hopefully he means full (contact) training as I thought I’d heard a few weeks ago that he was doing solo fitness work. I may have misheard that though. One of the main annoyances from last season was not getting to see such an exciting player in the flesh and not on the irritating iFollow on an iPad.

It’s a possibility that we may not win the league by Xmas. We possibly won't even reach double figures for goals scored by Xmas.

If we can stay solid we won’t need to score tonnes of goals.

I think we tend to forget that this has been a stressful week so far for some of the management team.

Apparently both teams have kept playing and still neither have scored... Who'd have thought!?

Thought Clint Hill came across well, I laughed when he forgot the season starts a week Saturday!
Liked when he said when we assemble the strongest team it will be some team, as difficult to imagine it, but Luke Thomas and Nicho will be awesome this season.

Good interview and an honest assessment. It must be very difficult when Covid splits the players levels of fitness and particularly so when you have a brand new team. Lookinjg at last nights performance in the light of day and you hade one team who treated it like a League match with crunching tackles that really shouldnt have taken place with a referee who should have controlled that aspect better with the season so near and the other team having lots of the ball but tendi8ng to overdo things. There were some good moves and a couple of good chances but overall the most worrying thing was the lack of goals but this can be put right I think with the return of p-layers we havent even seen this season and some who we have seen little of. The main thing I have noticed is that the new influx of youngsters look a level up from your Hargreaves/Tomlinson,Walker,Liddell which is good to see but probably means that those older youngsters will need to go on loan or be released. The player who shone out for me was Grant in the centre back position. He dominated the game I thought with his positional sense and was excellent in possession and with Coutts likely to get the nod for the defensive midfielder spot this could well work out although it would mean that we lacked a bit of height in the defence which Taylor would obviously give us. If we are to play a back four then it is very important that we get in another right back as the youngster Houle did ok but looked a bit dodgy on a few occasions which is to be expected. I think if we can get in that elusive experienced striker we will still be one forward light for a full compliment and the right back then thisa could develop into a good team. Will it be ready for Mansfield....who knows?

Thought Grant was excellent ... I called out last season for him to play at CB as he is quick, reads play well but does lack a bit of height. As Steve says with Grant at CB and Paul Coutts as DM it feels a more solid unit.
Going forward looks pacey and chances will come ... A proven striker could do very well - even an energetic one like Timmy if he builds confidence with early goals
Pleased to see Westbrooke get stuck in and show a bit more steel - especially when tackles were flying in and he was first on the scene getting involved - liked that.
Hanlan looked like the player of last season to me - would not be my first choice to lead the line.
Thought the youngsters looked good, very quick on the ball and as above a few of the older lads have maybe missed their chance and probably need to be moved on.
Seriously hoping we see a few more out this week and that coveted striker - possibly Timmy in.
We could well start the season very slowly given the absences of key people but momentum should build - we need to hold our breath in August / September i sense.

First time I've ever heard Hill speak and I liked the cut of his jib. I'm a little less concerned if he's going to be caretaker-manager or even manager this season.

I like Clint Hill, he always comes across well. I'd be happy to give him a go as caretaker manager, but to be fair to him it's a baptism of fire, and poor results wouldn't necessarily be down to him.
