I like Clint Hill, he always comes across well. I'd be happy to give him a go as caretaker manager, but to be fair to him it's a baptism of fire, and poor results wouldn't necessarily be down to him. It also gives the players some stability, with continuing on what they've been working on already. I think the last thing they need is another "re-set".

Thought Grant was excellent ... I called out last season for him to play at CB as he is quick, reads play well but does lack a bit of height. As Steve says with Grant at CB and Paul Coutts as DM it feels a more solid unit. Going forward looks pacey and chances will come ... A proven striker could do very well - even an energetic one like Timmy if he builds confidence with early goals Pleased to see Westbrooke get stuck in and show a bit more steel - especially when tackles were flying in and he was first on the scene getting involved - liked that. Hanlan looked like the player of last season to me - would not be my first choice to lead the line. Thought the youngsters looked good, very quick on the ball and as above a few of the older lads have maybe missed their chance and probably need to be moved on. Seriously hoping we see a few more out this week and that coveted striker - possibly Timmy in. We could well start the season very slowly given the absences of key people but momentum should build - we need to hold our breath in August / September i sense. Saw a few suggestions that Timmy played for Newport last night on trial, so possibly we have missed out. If we were even in for him?

Not sure why we'd be interested in Timmy Abraham, he was useless when he was here on loan. Worse than what we already have.
He's had 3 loan spells (Bristol Rovers, Plymouth and Raith Rovers), only made 16 appearances in total and failed to score a single goal.
We need somebody we can realistically expect to score 15+ goals this season and Abraham certainly is not that man.
Glad to hear he's heading for Newport.

I thought Timmy had just signed for Cheltenham? No Tilly, played a game or two for them but as yet have not signed him. Edit. Played three games for them but they announced a few days ago he would not be joining them.

Poor old Brandon, he huffed and puffed last night, slipped over and ran around, unfortunately, but did not look like he would ever score a goal; I would move him out wide, I am sure he would be better playing out wide in a three. Hoping Wael brings in a centre forward before Saturday, when Matty and Ellis arrive back into BS7.

Are we playing two teams? Ah, correction, Matty & Billy Bodin, senior moment. There were a lot of rumours about Ellis teaming up with Taylor, but I think Portsmouth then sold one of their other strikers, so are hanging onto him at the moment. For me it would really rub salt in the wounds to see the three of them back together in opposition shirts.

For those who went last night, were there any covid restrictions for entry to the ground? The website only talks about guidelines for the Swansea game, which was going to be our ‘test event’ as I understand it. So assuming the same rules rolled over to last night, were vaccines passports etc. needed/checked? Thinking of popping down for the Oxford game but not sure what might be required for this one.

LFT result put into the NHS app in last 48 hours or proof of double vaccination (+14 days) was required. They weren’t that fussed other than just seeing it. Security at the turnstiles check your statuses before you go through the turnstiles.

Did we actually have any attempts on goal? Trouble the keeper at all?

I didn't see the game, but how did Ryan Jones get on?
He looked class against Melksham.
