With the season about to begin and the transfer window due to close at the end of August, is there anything you would've done differently, or players you'd wished we were able to sign?
I ask this now, as its easy to criticise later in the season once things haven't turned out as we'd all have hoped.
I don't know much about a number of these players myself, but I'm reasonably happy with the signings, and if JB doesn't make it to the end of the season, I'm also confident that the rest of the team he brought in will be able to finish the job of getting us promoted.

I'm happy with the summer signings on the whole, so I wouldn't necessarily have done anything differently on that score. I would have kept Ayunga though, and let Hanlan go. Very bumpable thread this one, perhaps GGMI will bump this next May if he is allowed back on here by then!

Later in the season buckets of hindsight materialise, when people were happy with the decisions made at the time, last season being a perfect example.

Another centre forward who can amongst other things win a header. Injury to BP or BH leaves little options as a focas.

I think that's a problem with this squad limit system though, it is so difficult to have adequate cover for specific positions, especially forwards. Also, not many will be happy to sit on the sidelines on the off chance the first choice player is injured /suspended.

Then they have to fight for their first team shirt and try to hold onto it when given the opportunity. We dont really want players who are happy to be 3rd or 4th choice.

I’ll wait until I see them play together as a team before passing judgement.. Yes I’m happy with the signings but I was last year and thought we’d challenge for the play offs and look what happened. UTG!

And in the spirit of the opening post about players I would have liked. Andy Cannon. When he was at Rochdale I thought we should have tried to get him here, he went to Pompey and was never a regular. Released this summer and has ended up at Hull where I suspect he’ll be a bench warmer again. UTG!

It looks like everyone is happy with the signings and balance within the squad, so I'm sure we won't get anyone whinging about it later in the season. 🤣

Still to early to say really, the window still has time to run and I think we will see a couple more in before it shuts. As it stands currently, I would have liked another striker in the door before now, and another centre back if we plan on playing 3 at the back for the majority of games. I thought we would have a few more out of the door by now also, Barrett, Baldwin, Harries, Haregreaves and Hanlon would be moved on if it was me making the decisions. A lot of the younger players need game time too so will need loan moves, although there is still lots of time for this to be arranged. Quite a few posters have said they would of kept ayunga, not for me, I couldn’t see him becoming what we need and I can’t see him scoring any more than 5 for morecombe this season.

Would have kept Ayunga over Hanlan .... Absolute crime we had to pay a fee for him and possibly the only reason he is still around.
Would maybe tried to move a few more on as well ... Baldwin, Westbrooke, Harries, Barrett - Although I expect a few of these will be gone before the window closes.

Appreciating that these things might still happen yet.
I’d have brought in a right back because I worry we’re too tied to wingbacks with the current squad.
I would have either kept Ayunga or brought in another striker capable of holding the ball up front. I worry we’re a little too reliant on Pitman and whilst I don’t really buy this ‘he’ll only be able to play the last twenty mins’ rhetoric I do feel if he gets injured we’re a bit stuck.
Can’t really fault a lot of the rest of the squad build at this stage but it would be nice to see a full squad with the likes of Finley back because I’m just assuming that the players are of reasonable quality at this stage.

To be fair he had a good first half to the season with 8 goals and a terrible second half to the season with only 1 goal. If he could play like he did the first half of last season all of this season then we’ve got a 20 goal striker in him. I would have kept Ayunga too.

I'm sure if we don't get the result everyone think we should on Saturday, this thread will soon escalate.

To be fair to Hanlan, we were told that he was carrying an injury since Christmas, so wasn't able to play 100%. I only saw him play against Melksham, and he certainly looked pretty sharp, although didn't score, and I know that's the important thing. I've always seen him playing wide in a 3, rather than an out and out number 9 like JCH.

I'm sure if we don't get the result everyone think we should on Saturday, this thread will soon escalate. Well I for one think we will get beaten against Mansfield ... Very decent set up ... Good manager and possibly have had a better build up than we have given our injuries and Covid set backs. Not enough of our first choice players have had enough game time. Will take three or four games before we really get going i sense.... We have some winnable games early on as well. Think we will finish at least play offs btw...

From a player perspective only... Still may happen but we need to move Baldwin on and Hargreaves and Liddle out on loan. RB probably required but no rush. Would have kept Jonah, but understand places are limited. Feel we need a young big no.9 for the squad. Gonna be a tough start as the team are way underprepared, hopefully we have enough to get a few results in the first 4 or 5 games or it could turn a bit ugly.
