I also thought there were positives and as previously mentioned there is the basis of a good team in the making.
What I think stood out other than the urgent need for a striker was we have limited strength in depth. I thought Hargreaves was awful, Luca Hoole will be a decent player but will need to managed and not relied on as a starter every game. Will Anssi remain out number 1 based on his last two games ?
Let’s see what Tuesday brings

Haven't seen any positives since getting back into Lg1 under DC. Since then it's been a complete and utter failure with Managers and Players.

After a slow start I thought we got better as the first half progressed, at half time I thought we would go on to win. The second half was absolute rubbish it had 0.0 written all over it until JBs substitutions. We surrendered the midfield and Stevenage pushed us back and the first goal was no surprise to me. I think we do have some promising players but the present tactic of one up front is bewildering and on top of all our managers personal troubles I suspect his tactical nous is seriously lacking.

I quite like Anderton input both v Stevenage and Mansfield. He seems to link up with Hughes, and their pairing is definitely a physical presence we need at this level.
I also like Harries movement he got in a position to shoot (albeit tamely) and wish he would get forward more. Plus, last campaign, he made the tackle of the season so at least he gives it all.
Hoole is the most eye-catching for me....young and mature beyond his years so far. Well done, Luca...

Seems to lack pace, passing not great and looks like he has a few errors in him.

Also lost count the amount of times he needlessly gave away possession. Looks poor to me, but as you say, early days

Good post - I was beginning to think it was just me, and perhaps I'd watched a totally different game to the majority on here. I was thinking after the first half that we weren’t a million miles off being a squad who will do well this season. And I couldn’t understand what was being said after the other two games which unfortunately I couldn’t make. In the first half we were generating plenty and moving forward well. Harry Anderson caused plenty of trouble down the left. After 55 minutes we seemed to lose our grip on the game. We didn’t look fit enough and stopped generating chances.I think it’s a case of fitness, plugging a gap at LB and upfront. Cian Harries was a bit of a weak spot. We didn’t generate many shots on target but many attempts went a foot the wrong side of the the post or over it. I do wonder how many supporters peddling this line went to the match? We will come good I’m sure of it and then we will be flying. Stevenage moved Lines 10 yards further up the pitch and we countered by doing the same with Grant which left our defence a bit more open to runners... we lost the midfield at that point

Anderson, Hoole and Finley positives to me. Grant at times showing he will be great, with coutts and Finley alongside him that could be decent. Need fullbacks and obviously a striker or two. Definitely need another striker but I really can't see there being 4 more through the door before the window closes, we're already over the squad size limit as things stand

1.Being back in the ground. 2.Being amongst Bristolian accents 3.Admiring the tents which are unique footballing architecture. 4.Seeing my cousin from Totterdown before the game. 5.The three passes we strung together in the first half. 6.Chris Lines quality was a delight.Sadly wearing the wrong shirt. 7,White shorts
Seriously the MOTD commentator at Goodison used the expression, 'Outpouring of Joy' when Everton scored their third.Remember that euphoria when Browners last minute winner went in against Dagenham and Redbridge to clinch promotion but not been a lot of Outpourings of Joy of late! Also imagine scoring three goals in one game!!!!!!!

Agree with the OP's positives from yesterday's game. The only other I can think of is seeing Nicho, Rodders and Collins get some minutes although it's ironic that getting them on as subs appears to have cost us the game.
In terms of the wider picture, I just don't feel positive at all and I say that as someone who is a glass half full type of person!
How on earth have we gone from the top of L1 to the bottom of L2 in the space of a year and half? It's mind boggling to me, it really is!

Hoole is a definite positive, I think Finley will also be a huge improvement in the middle of the pitch, there were signs yesterday until he understandably tired. I also like the look of Anderson. If we're looking to bring in a full back for me it has to be left sided, we have Hoole, Anderson & Rodman who can fill full back/ wing back slots on the right but are very short of options on the left without Clarke. All their danger came down our left side, Harries at left back was a liability.

Not many positives, lets be honest.
Hoole has done okay but I think that's mainly because you have no expectations of a young kid making his debut. Don't see him as an improvement on Williams at this stage but he will no doubt improve with experience.
Moments of madness look less likely with Hughes and Anderton so probably an upgrade on Baldwin and Harries but they're nothing special as 6 goals conceded in 3 games will tell you.
Harries is not good enough as a centre back and certainly not a left back. Much weaker in that area without Leahy.
Nobody has stood out in midfield. Coutts and Finley need more time but I'm not sure either are the answer. We've lost the midfield in every game so far. Grant has been as ineffective as ever and Westbrooke has hopefully played his last game in the quarters.
I don't doubt Thomas has some ability but we haven't seen it yet and for all his effort, Saunders offers very little.
Anderson looks decent, probably the only player that's hit the ground running.
Even Jaakkola has started poorly. Could argue he's cost us both games. Poor mistake for Mansfields first and I thought he should have done better with Lines goal yesterday.
We need more than a number nine to turn things around in my opinion.

A few positives Luca Hoole getting an opportunity again Pleased Cam Hargreaves got a chance as well Good that Lines is still going strong Pleased for Daly getting an opportunity in the league again, thought he was hard done by Oh, and hopefully if this level of performance continues we won’t have a nasty violent thug for a manager any more, or nasty comments

We won’t improve as a team, until we have a proper no. 9! It’s impossible to play through the pitch, with no one to hold the ball. The poor lad Saunders didn’t stand a chance. We need a striker now! Not in two weeks
