Is Joey trying to recreate this?

I was surprised to learn that David Wheater is only 34, thought he was older than that. Despite the obvious concerns about the increasing age of our squad, some no nonsense physicality and experience could be what we need in defence.
Think this could be a decent signing (If there’s any substance to the rumours of course)

Is Joey trying to recreate this? Remember we were talking about strange injuries recently? Wheater aggravated an old back injury during his time at Oldham by lifting his dog out of the car and was out for about 2 months.

Wages would probably be steep which im guessing is why he is (still) free?

He never played any football last season, Oldham was trying to force him out of his contract due to high wage and they never wanted him.

Sounds like a training issue, perhaps JB should sign Barbara Woodhouse? Is she still around? Fits the age profile.

He never played any football last season, Oldham was trying to force him out of his contract due to high wage and they never wanted him. A mistake we have made a fair few times in the past. A fit Wheater could be a real asset but an injured Wheater could be a real burden. Always the risk you take when you make those types of signings.

This seems as though we reverted back to the Rovers of the Buckle/McGhee period. Bouncing between managers in League Two with journeymen players looking for one last pay day.

Well Wael's evolution not revolution philosophy has been well and truly abandoned if some of the older players talked about on here are actually signed. Which they might not be, of course. But Joey's approach, with little attention to youth, massive clearouts of existing players, and getting old heads on board seems very short term, ie get us out of L2. I won't be complaining if it works.

He said Wheater was easily the best defender at the club but fell out with the owner (probably on contract related matters). As a result Wheater was not picked for the first team even though the team was shipping goals at an alarming rate.
