We could always try playing to Thomas, Collins and Evans strengths If we don't have a target man play into their feet, they all are technically good players maybe we should try using that to our advantage rather than punting aimless balls which are meat and drink to the centre backs. Of course we can go long if we need to but play those passes into the channels, turn the centre backs and make them work, we have pace in wide areas with Saunders and Anderson, if we don't have the option of Clarke we have to play in a different way. Man City seemed to do alright without a recognised striker and just lots of forward thinking players up top….and they don’t wear red too. V similar. 😂

What an absolute shock.
Ah well, at least - given how woeful we were up front last season - we fully addressed the issue. Step forward....
Oh. Wait.

Rovers 0 - 4 Leyton Orient for me. Think we will be absolutely annihilated tomorrow.

Rovers 0 - 4 Leyton Orient for me. Think we will be absolutely annihilated tomorrow. Can't see much else. What happened to us looking forward to putting up a fight and getting 3 points to get into a top 6 slot with dreams of promotion? 5.10pm tomorrow we'll be bottom.

We’ll win Saturday as nobody is expecting it and then put in an abject performance in the following match. It’s the Rovers way!

I’m annoyed at this. I have no medical expertise at all but said several times at the time he signed his hamstring will go again. At his age tearing it twice in a year it doesn’t fully repair again especially to be a professional footballer. Who in our medical dept thought it would be ok. Ridiculous. So now we’re left with next to f**k all up front. Sounds like he was the only option left and he was on trial for a few weeks before he signed. Hamstring injuries are frustrating, but player’s have over come them before. I remember listening to Dyer talking about it before. For years he suffered, then when they got to the bottom of it, he was ok. Suffered with similar problems myself in the past.

I will buck the trend and predict a 3-1 home victory.
Not sure what lineup or formation will start.

Utter negligence.
Built a whole team around one up top and we're now missing our main target man for several months. Collins is no good on his own as we've already seen. Pitman can only hobble around for 45 at best due to his injury / fitness levels.
Personally I think we should get 2 up top (especially when home), maybe Saunders and Collins or Thomas if he's ready, but knowing Barton he'll persist with the long ball set up and probably put Grant up there!

Has it really got to the desperate stage where "the only option left" was a soon to be 37-year-old rejected by a National League North club?

I am a similar age to Clarke and have picked up several tendon injuries in the last 5 years. None of them heal fully they always remain niggling away and If I try to play any sports to a terrible Standard you feel them. I just don’t think Clarke can come back from 2 tears in 9 months at that age which sounds like 3 now and still play professional football. Barrett’s struggling to do it 14 years younger. There had to be a better option out there. Had to be.

Couldn’t be any worse off than we are now, spending the money and getting next to nowt for it.

From the highlights I've seen Orient look a very good footballing side.
They have the best goal difference in the league and are one of the highest scorers.
They've started the season well and will be full of confidence after recent results.
They beat Exeter 3-0 the week before Exeter beat us 4-1.
We're missing our best player in Nicholson and the focal point of our attack in Clarke.
Rovers to win 6-2.

The club is a total Shambles both on and off the field.Won't be there tomorrow.Fast losing the faith. Our passing and our goal scoring record is woeful.Since I went to Ipswich and Shrewsbury under GC and saw magnificent victories,it's been dreadful. We still have three tents for stands and why have we no strikers? Is it lack of money, players don't want to play at our Dump or is the youth scheme simply not producing any? Marcus get your boots on as you fit the current criteria age wise. NB.Boston United's new ground now under construction Attachment Deleted

We don’t know why National League North side said no but I don’t think it was because of his age or ability…. Think it was more to do with Finances in that by signing him on the wages he wanted they couldn’t afford it or it put their ability to sign more players at risk….. What you have written is factually correct but a little disingenuous as it implies that he wasn’t good enough… now he may not well be, but based on his 70mins he’s played, his career history, the type of role we are asking him to play (being a focal point for others to play off) and that he’s scored - I personally think he is good enough for LG 2 irrespective of age…. His hamstring is unfortunate but as others have said, it’s not uncommon and he has been with us for a number of weeks before signing….. Whilst it’s a loss that he’s out - we do have Pittman who can play that role…..

Whilst it’s a loss that he’s out - we do have Pittman who can play that role….. Pitman, who is also carrying an injury, not to mention a few extra pounds in weight. How many games has Clarke played in the past 2 or 3 years and how many do we expect him to play this season? "He’s going to miss a significant period of time by the looks of it, so I’m really disappointed" said Barton. "We knew we were short anyway with the window closing," the manager said. "Obviously, when you take 36-year-old free agents, it’s a risk, it’s a gamble and Brett (Pitman) is kind of in the same boat. "You do want 23, 24, 25, 26-year-olds, but they tend to cost a significant amount more than the boys on free transfers. We tried our best to get the best available. "Losing Brandon (Hanlan) was tough because it was late in the window and, as I said at the time, it was always going to be a risk because of the scarcity of that type of player in the marketplace." Amazed we couldn't find (or afford?) a decent number 9 in the marketplace during the last window and the "best available" was a soon to be 37-year-old free agent.
