Fairly standard for our board. Couldn't run a waterup in a brewery and have no idea how to handle bad publicity, other than to make themselves look even worse than they already do. It's quite a skill really.

It's quite a skill really. Is there no end to our ineptness I'm not being funny, but despite having no experience whatsoever in working in sport, let alone in professional football, in my line of work I have plenty of experience of working in a team, managing projects and generally fighting fires. I cannot see how I could possibly do as badly as our board do in running our club. It is truly a shambles. I expect the reason the club has made no comment is because nobody could be arsed to think of a comment on a Sunday morning. Someone ought to tell them that being a well-paid spokesman for a public institution means that they have to occasionally make press releases on weekends.

Spot on, it now comes across that either they don't care or they think he hasn't done anything wrong. Neither is a good sign The thing is, it's so simple to come out with a comment to appease the majority and get the press off their backs. Firstly, you give Barton a quick ring, and say "Joey, we're likely to get questions coming our way regarding one of your comments in the presser yesterday. In our view, it was ill-advised, and so you know, we're planning to make a comment along those lines when asked". Then, when the question comes your way, you make a comment such as "We are aware of the comments made by our manager after yesterday's match. Regardless of the perceived context, as a club, we do not condone the remarks, and we apologise for any offence these may have caused. We will be making no further comments at this time." It really is so simple. I mean, I knocked this up in less than 2 minutes.

'Refuse to comment' Absolutely pathetic.

'Refuse to comment' Absolutely pathetic. Hopefully that means he's being sacked tomorrow. Although I note that one of the comments suggest he's already been asked to leave and it didn't go well for Starnes and Widdrington.

What the article says...
Bristol Rovers refuse to comment on manager Joey Barton's 'Holocaust' analogy.
The Bristol Rovers manager has been condemned by supporters for the comments which came in the wake of their 3-1 defeat to Newport County.
Bristol Rovers have refused to comment on, apologise or further explain Joey Barton's comments in the wake of their 3-1 defeat to Newport County in which the Gas manager refereed to a poor individual performance as like 'a holocaust'.
When asked in his post-match press conference, "is that defence capable of being more solid?", Barton responded: "I said to the lads during the week, the team’s almost like musical chairs. Someone gets in and does well but then gets suspended or injured. Someone gets in for a game, does well but then has a holocaust, a nightmare, an absolute disaster."
After initially being broadcast through club channels, the footage was widely shared and condemned on social media by fans before it was taken down internally, edited and re-posted to remove the offending line.
However, when contacted on Sunday morning, and then given several hours to provide a response, Rovers refused to comment. Bristol Live understands several club figures have been left upset by Barton's choice of words.
The Holocaust was the genocide of European Jews between 1941-1945 by Nazi Germany and their collaborators in which an estimated six million men, women and children - around two thirds of the continent's Jewish population - were slaughtered. The alternative dictionary definition of a holocaust is a, "destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war".
Since taking charge of Rovers in February, Barton's choice of language has caused issues. His claims that predecessors Paul Tisdale and Ben Garner were "negligent" led to a threat of legal action. In May, he stated there was a "cancer" dragging the Gas down in reference to an unnamed individual at the club.
He has previously publicly criticised medical staff at the club and last week, unprompted, highlighted his non-existent relationship with director and former head of recruitment Tommy Widdrington.

I know it looks bad that the club refuses to comment but within the article, it says 'Bristol Live understands several club figures have been left upset by Barton's choice of words'. Maybe, they won't comment until they have discussed it with JB first. Or that something could be happening in the background.

It's not rocket science. They are incompetent. End of story.

The trouble is Wael loves Joey and so the Board and other senior staff have to keep their mouths shut and grin and bear the rants, insults and ill-chosen words that typify the man.
I never wanted Barton anywhere near the club and it will make my day when he's eventually sacked. Once I respected Wael but his love-in with Barton is sickening.
I want my Rovers back...

I agree with you that it should have been done last night but I do wonder who these club figures are and what will come from this.

What right do Starnes and Widdrington have to request that he leaves? They are Board members and should go through the correct channels if they want him out of the club - just shows what an amateur sh*t show the club is.

I just want to know who these club figures are as I am a nosy bugger lol. Were they approached to give their off the record displeasure or have they leaked it instead.

Sussex Friends of Israel - a community group dedicated to promoting a better understanding of Israel - said: “The use of the term ‘Holocaust’ has been so badly abused in recent years that idiots think it can be used in the context of a bad performance by a football team. If you need to remind people like Barton that 6,000,000 perished in the Shoah I despair for the future.”
Article ends with "The Sun has approached Bristol Rovers for comment."

The Sun have added in that article a very long list of incidents that JB's has been involved in. It's a shocking read. Cannot believe he got our managers job and I cannot believe people like him.
