To answer your question o2, of course he’s the first choice. I can’t honestly remember when Jaak strung a series of games together, Day was choice for much of JBs time with us I think so yes Belshaw first choice for me. Best we’ve had since Blackman imo. UTG! Agreed. Agree with the sentiments expressed here and I can't remember a time we were so blessed with 2 of our own Keepers that inspire confidence. It shows how far Belshaw has come to resonate with many in the fanbase by displacing an international call up by hard work and ability. I must admit though, I thought it would be closer a poll...

Jaakola is the better keeper, but Belshaw has been good for us and consistent so would be very harsh to drop him. Not sure Jaakola is the better keeper, possibly better shot stopper but not sure about all round game. Jaakola spent too much time rooted to his goal line and his distribution was inferior.

I guess that’s the thing though, we can always say after a match in which any keeper plays well that he’s “very good” or “the best we’ve had”. And I’m sure it’s been said about most of our keepers at some stage. Overall, I agree with what you’ve said, Belshaw looks to have better distribution and deals better, imo, with crosses. Istr after some matches Day got some great reviews as has Jaak over time. The big difference is that Jaak stays back whereas Belshaw reads the game better and plays a good 10 metres forward which allows him to clear stuff when the opposition tries to play behind the defence. At the moment we are judging it all on 3 months, I guess come the end of the season we’ll be clearer about it. But atm, I’m really happy to have Belshaw in goal. UTG!

Belly deserves the shirt, and understands us like TT mentioned.
Jaak is a quality keeper though.

I'm not judging which is the better keeper over their time at the club, just who should be our No 1 once Jaakola is fit, based on their most recent form. Possibly Jaakola will also benefit from the new goalie coach and return an even better keeper than he was before he was injured, just in time for the play off final penalty shoot out!!

I’m not sure that Belly gets us any more or less than Jaakola.
Jaakola was a firm favourite when he played in front of crowds and played a huge part in getting us to 4th in the league at Christmas 2019. Most gasheads considered us to have one of if not the best keepers in the league and worthy of playing at Championship level.
Belly has been fantastic - can’t understand why Harrogate preferred to sign a new keeper. What have they seen we haven’t?
My decision is purely based on Jaakolas injury record and Belly’s form in his absence. I imagine he’s on a fair whack whilst belly is relatively cheap. Not sure we can afford to keep Jaakola when Belly is performing this well

Fickle fans! Ansi was outstanding for us for a good while. I think he was suspect this year and yes, he is injury prone.
I just imagined Ansi’s face when he clicked this link and the 43 to 1 against must have caused him a bit of a sad pikachu face.
I mean, he was stalwart and kept us in games a lot and now Mr New Guy has taken our hearts. Basically we’ve jilted him for a new suitor.
I’ve ordered 2 tubs haagen das for Ansi.

Fair shout GofA, I do think the poll appears very one sided and I felt the same thing, however it is quite an easy one to answer. The question in the poll is would you keep Belshaw in the team when Anssi is back fit, and considering he's in good form, it would be very harsh to drop him. That doesn't take away how good a keeper Anssi is. I'm just happy we have a number 2 keeper in Belshaw that is just as capable as our number 1.

The only problem that I have with Belshaw is the amount of routine saves that he parries back into play. Some of these would be much easier to turn around the post. He did it again yesterday.

Maybe Belly has benefited from the coaching at Rovers since his move? Otherwise, I can't imagine why Harrogate wanted to move him on.

Just dropping in to say he’s quickly becoming one of my favourite gas goalkeepers. And we’ve had a few fantastic ones!
Loved the tackle on Matty Snake this evening.

Saying something when we’ve had Bonham and Lumley on loan in recent years who are now employed at championship level!

What a great character!?
Potential to be a legend...

Watching him yesterday he did everything you’d want from a keeper imo. He made the one save in the early minutes to stop them. After, he played as a good old fashioned sweeper and was always alert to that ball behind the back 3 and came out to clear the ball away and defend. He’s better on crosses than Jaak and deals with aerial stuff far better. His distribution starts from the point of defending his goal which I have no problem with. His kicking is ok and yesterday for example he set up Grant to attack on two occasions in the first half. I just have more confidence when I see him there than any other keeper we’ve had To answer your question o2, of course he’s the first choice. When I said that I didn’t think he would be clearing from near the half way line as he did with Taylor last night. He really does play more advanced than most keepers. UTG!

Tend to agree. But Iker Casillas became "one of the greatest ever" through doing exactly the same. FWIW tho, I never rated Casillas - tin hat on. Love Belly though.

He’s also a league 2 keeper so is bound to have some weaknesses in his game otherwise he wouldn’t be here.

Exactly he was abused at an embarrassing level at Exeter - it was horrendous

Two great keepers - Belly said he wanted to be no 1 and he is now. He has such determination and clearly loves the club - Jaak is a class act but does seem prone to injury.
