To fit in with the theme...
Jaaks gets miraculously fit by next Saturday v Trannies. Is he still your number1 based on the form of Belshaw?
I'll start off. I think we have to look to the future, I say JB is our number 1 keeps as he has the reigns and is on form.
Jaaks, for all his abilities gets injuries too often and I think this will be his last season with us.
Yesterday especially, his sweeper style (for those old enough to remember the innovative new system) clearances and brilliant early save suggest he could be a key player in any promotion push.
I like his kicking out or into touch in opposition half.... it's better than passing straight to opponent and is no nonsense.
Yep, I'm a fan, I think he's earned right to be first choice. What do you think?

No brainer
He’s earned the right to start
Possibly our most consistent player this season??
Anssi perfect as back up, will be his last season, and what a prospect we have coming through!!
Happy days!

Belly's been number one for me for quite a while. Jaak is a fantastic keeper but I think Belly edges it based mainly on his reading of the game and ability to preempt the opposition in attack. He always seems to be in the right place to deal with a counter attack and comes out at the right time.
He's also a fantastic shot stopper and his distribution is excellent most of the time.
Definitely has to keep the gloves for me!

Big belly. Gets the gas and what we are about. Release the fin who is never fit unless called up for his country to sit on the bench

What an excellent problem for us to have.
I wonder if Jaakola is really unfit, and think we’ve seen the last of him in a Rovers goalkeeper kit.

I think Jakk is much better.
Luckily the standard of finishing is pretty poor and strikers just seem to hit it hard and straight. There doesn't seem to be much composure with placement.
That said we are skint, so if Jakk can get a better deal, even if it is on loan then that saves the club some money. Belly is amongst the top 5 keepers in this division and would be a good squad player in the next league up.
Just because we won two on the bounce, you can still expect some inconsistency and Barton seems to like picking "his" players so when Hughes and Pittman get fit, you can expect Alfie and someone else to get dropped, so promotion is not a strong possibility.
We have been fortunate recently ie Pittman gets injured so brings on Kilgour and we get a better shape. Clarke and Brown get injured so he plays Grant at LWB.

At his best a superb keeper but Jaakkola's form had been a bit patchy in recent times, even when fit. This may be due to a lack of games because of so many injuries, international call up's etc.
Regardless, Belshaw has been excellent and should now been considered our No.1 in my opinion.
I'd thank Jaak for his service but let him go at the end of the season.

Anssi is obviously class but Belly has earned the right to start even if Anssi gets fit.

Belly is in good form and deserves to keep the No 1 shirt, he seems to have really bought into the Gas ethos as well.

Not sure there's any real dispute, Balshaw's our new No 1 and it's up to Jaakola to win his shirt back, should he ever get fit whilst he's still a Rovers player. I wouldn't be surprised if he went to another club on an emergency loan if he does ever get fit.

Watching him yesterday he did everything you’d want from a keeper imo. He made the one save in the early minutes to stop them. After, he played as a good old fashioned sweeper and was always alert to that ball behind the back 3 and came out to clear the ball away and defend. He’s better on crosses than Jaak and deals with aerial stuff far better. His distribution starts from the point of defending his goal which I have no problem with. His kicking is ok and yesterday for example he set up Grant to attack on two occasions in the first half. I just have more confidence when I see him there than any other keeper we’ve had
To answer your question o2, of course he’s the first choice. I can’t honestly remember when Jaak strung a series of games together, Day was choice for much of JBs time with us I think so yes Belshaw first choice for me. Best we’ve had since Blackman imo.
UTG!

Jaakkola is a quality keeper on his day and has been great for us ( when fit ) but Belly has been extremely consistent for us , stops shots well and also seems to play as another defender. I have said it previously, there is something about Belly that really reminds me of Mildenhall , he seems to get what the gas is all about and has a good connection with us fans. He is 100% my number 1 from here on out.

I can’t remember where I read it, or heard it, but Belly did say that it was a toss up between being a midfielder or a goalkeeper which explains why he is more comfortable on the ball than most.
Also, given his performances for us, I don’t quite understand why Harrogate thought he wasn’t up to League 2 standard. I bet he would love to prove them wrong by helping us to finish above them at the end of the season.

Before he joined us, every cross, every free kick, every corner, every backpass would have me worried. Now? Not so much. First choice for me.

Jaakola is the better keeper, but Belshaw has been good for us and consistent so would be very harsh to drop him.

I think he was a bit of a steal for us and I’m pretty sure they didn’t really want to let him go.

Belshaw imo has earned the right to be our No1; he has been outstanding, long may that continue.
