I'd like to see them go belly-up as much as the next gashead, but Lansclown didnt get to where he has by misjudging investments and selling at the wrong time.
Pretty certain his family are on it for the very long term. City fans i know already accepting, somewhat grudgingly, that they are now a selling club and while they will always make multi-million signings, they will sell players who make the cut for much more to help minimise the losses.
And whilst it is true their set-up is not a world away from the bottom of the PL, it's still more close in resemblance to the teams around them in the middle of that division. Brighton, Brentford and Watford all show they could do it, but they know you need the right person managing [cliche I know] and a decent dose of luck. Pearson seems like a very safe choice [some funny rumours about his habits out there though!] and - as said already in this thread - cements their midtable tier-2 status.
No doubt the sister-sh4ggers over at otib will be creaming themselves at this thread.

Been a basket case of a business for some years and only by selling for big money and SL s pocket has kept them afloat. I don't think SL is going to pour money in to achieve top flight football, don't blame him, City fans have to accept that they are a competitive championship side with good facilities and accept there lot, which of course they won't! its the nature of most fans.

Bring on another 1982 for them. but this time let the unwashed fold. It’s a well known fact he more interested in the bears. He was counting on the now famous statement “ Europe in 5 years” far to much 🤣🤣🤣

They have their own ground and facilities. They get 20k a week. They have an academy. How are they a basket case? Surely this is what we are aiming for, developing infrastructure. Are we saying even with all the invesment by SL, they are still miles off as others are just burning money? Or is it that they are one faction of a multi brand strategy and as such don’t have the full revenue stream to themselves as it’s shared by the rugby? If it’s the latter then really, they aren’t as high and mighty as they seem. Sure they have a stadium and facilities, but it’s merely a share in it. It’s like having a time share on a holiday let

This also raises the question as to what fans want from the club. 1. Surviving in leagues one or two. 2. Losing a fortune and playing regularly in the Championship 3. Struggling in the Championship and losing shed loads of money 4. As above but in the Premier league 5. Playing comfortably in Premier league but not feeling like the Gas are our club anymore. Growing up I always dreamed we'd join the big boys, but now I'm not so sure, football isn't what it used to be and I don't want the Gas to sell the soul of the club. This is a great post… I sadly don’t know the answer

Your very last sentence sums up how i feel, my concern when Wael and co arrived was we would do just that, i need not have worried , we are still the same old Rovers!

Which kind of begs the question, if he keeps the Rugby Club, and presumably Ashton Gate for them to play in, how does he sell the Football Club? Easy, he just has to find someone who's clever enough to have millions of cash in the bank and stupid enough to wanna blow it on a crap football club. UTG!

All bar a very small minority unfortunately. We are in no position to laugh and kid about them losing money hand over fist, as we're doing the same thing but in a smaller pond. Only when we get a new stadium and improve our setup whereby we can make ourselves sustainable through regular high-profit player sales will we even be able to contemplate sustaining ourselves at Championship level.

But why are we making such huge losses?
In the Dunford, Watola era every penny was important, but they knew if we lost £250k a season there would be someone they could sell for £1 million to mean the club could survive for 4 seasons.
Now we are massively over budget, JB is looking at new signings in January and Wael's fortune is dwindling.
Despite TG talking the talk, apart from outsourcing to reduce costs how can we look to even break even.
The turnover of staff is massive and the output from a Stadium point of view looks small.
We have no real saleable talent ( I don't expect a large fee for Hoole or Ward), so are Wael/TG/JB just "playing football manager" and throwing money at promotion? - but what if we don't get into the play offs? £3-4 million losses and a decision to cut our cloth next season?

The way i see it is that Landowne has "fluffed up City in the shop window" with the ground ect... it hides that they need some serious investment in the squad. The only reason they dont get relegated is that there are always 3 clubs that are in disaster (e.g Derby) or clubs that shouldnt really be in the championship i.e clubs like the Wycombes and Rotherham's that save them.
You'd quite rightly point out that Rovers are much worse off but then we are in League 2, its hard to see who is massively better off than us. If by some miracle we sorted the ground situation I think there might be some cause for concern on the red side of the City

Call me abit small minded, but I’d hate to see us splashing the cash in the prem, surrounded by part timers and tourists only their to see the big teams, that’s not what Rovers are about for me. I’d love us to get to the Championship and compete near the top there. (although it feels like we’re still light years away from that)
