I have never before watched a team whose forwards are so inept to be so successful. Can you imagine what it would be like if they were buzzing too? I reckon if they were we would win League Two this season. Congratulations to the team for an old fashioned Rovers performance last night. C'mon you blues!

We have now come to an important crossroads of our season. We are crying out for some real quality upfront. Our board need to make funds available now for DC to bring in one proven goalscorer, this will put pressure on Barnet and make all the difference to the remainder of our season. UTG.

I just hope we can keep this up over xmas. This is a tough period for us with injuries etc, if we can just get through xmas not losing any ground on Barnet and sign some replacements in January (especially a winger), then who knows?!

what we need to do is get De La Verde from Fulham. He would have taken the game to Gateshead last night and put a stop to their arrogant keep-ball tactics in the first half. That said, hats off to DC, I didn't know what the hell we were going to do to get a foot in the game because Gateshead were running the show and taking the p!$$ in the first half. That's why he's the manager and thank God for that, rather than some of the know-all Clark out merchants that get on here every time we don't play well. That said, everyone has an opinion, including the moaning old git beside me last night. Honestly, after 10 minutes he might as well have gone home, criticising and groaning and telling Clark he was useless, the worst team we've ever had....Really, missed the Graydon, Buckle and McGhee ereas did you?

TBH watching on the box he wasn't wrong, I think last night DC proved he was a good manager, hopefully, he'll now get more respect from fans (including me!).
I agree LDV would have made the difference in the first half last night, so do we lack good strikers or, more likely, a good winger or two?
At least from the forwards back we now have a good foundation, although McChrystal could be out for a while?

Roll on the January transfer window I think Luton Signed Benson around this time and it gave them the impetus to push on and win the league. We need to do the same, sign a proven goalscorer.Question is who and how much can we afford ?

Think now is the time for our board to stump up the money required to get us that much need striker.....learn from last year's mistake. We can go up this season and all that money will be worth it's weight in gold come the end ..

Funny, I remember a Radio Bristol interview with John Ward last season. We'd just put three past Newport and JW made a joke somewhere along the lines of "some experts thinking we need to buy strikers".
Swallows ... summers ...

Anyway not sure we need a striker more than a replacement for LDV.

It's going over old ground, but fast forward a few months and we were bringing on Jamie Lucas and Mitch Harding to save us in the final games of the season. That's no disservice to Lucas by the way, who has done very well on loan this season - or Harding for that matter. It was just too much for a kid, and showed how JW's lack of recruitment cost us in the end. Also see our defensive options for the Mansfield game, we were down to the bare bones once Smith and Woodards were injured in truth. Convinced DC will get it right eventually on the scoring front, after all Salisbury scored 80+ goals during their promotion season from Conference South. It's a dilemma because Taylor is a good player, but not a natural goalscorer. Same can potentially be said for Blissett and the others, who have never been particularly prolific. I thought White would take on that role, but these things don't always work out. EDIT: I think LDV will come back in January too. That will help massively if he does.

Right. Here's the thing. We could go out and splash yet more cash on a striker in the January window, or we could do something radical. Keep the faith in those that we have. I recently looked into the record of Taylor and Harrison after 24 games compared to our best strikers over the last 15 years. Amongst others, Lambert, Ellington, Agogo, Roberts all struggled to find the net when they first joined the club, before hitting a rich vein of form and becoming Rovers legends. If we sign another striker in January, they may very well find goals hard to come by as they settle in, too. Let's give Taylor, Blissett, Ellis and the loanee bloke who's name I've forgotten, a chance to push on in a relatively successful team and spend the cash on a winger or creative midfielder instead. The more chances we create, the more goals we'll score.

I read one of 2nd May 1990's posts recently where he seemed not to rate Goldberg, totally write him off in fact - couldn't even remember his name.

Don't know about bringing on to save us - DC played Jamie Lucas in crunch games having just returned from a broken foot - which could be described as foolish at best. JW's side scored three, four months before the end of the season and everyone swallowed it that we didn't have a problem up front. DC's side have scored three, four months before the end of the season and suddenly everyone's convinced we don't have a problem up front. I can't see the difference.
