it was interesting that 30 of the 32 FA trophy games took place on the weekend between the 18th and 20th December . Compare that with 22 games off and only 15 on in the EFL/ Premiership. You would have expected that the professionals would have been able to form bubbles easier .

Perhaps the squad rule should be removed, it seems to stop the youth from coming through? Think it stops teams overspending though? Actually thinking about it, don't players below a certain age not count towards the total squad count? It’s all so confusing, but I’m sure some exciting young players would get a chance they wouldn’t otherwise, whether for us or other clubs.

And the other thing I would add, is that are those clubs able to weather the impact of mass postponements at a time of year where they probably attract the highest crowds? Probably not I would say.

I don't think some people still understand what Covid does to you. I am triple jabbed and tested positive on Christmas morning and it has hit me for six. It affects people in different ways and your breathing suffers as I have found out. I am also suffering from lack of energy and have no appetite so imagine being a professional athlete/footballer,this stops you doing your every day routine and it will take time to build back up. If it has spread in the camp it can take weeks for people to fully recover and to call the game off is the only sensible decision the club can make. Great post! Exactly this. Un-vaccinated is a different debate.

I’m struggling with it, particularly Premiership teams calling games off yet they can send countless players out on loan, The way it’s going will the season be extended? Well you can only register a certain amount of players, right? 25 is it? Seeming as you need 14 fit players for a game to go ahead, take 10 our due to Covid and you only need 2 players either injured or suspended and your game is off. I'd rather see them input an emergency rule to allow for non-season squad players able to backfill for those who've tested positive. They can name 25 players and under 21 players don't count. Most of these clubs, sign up loads of youngsters. Why not make them actually play some of them??

Bearing in mind off the top of my head we have 9 players out injured I make it Jak Taylor Kilgour Hughes Grant Brown Rodman Clarke Saunders
Plus 2 suspended Finley and harries That leaves us with 14 players. Only needs a couple To be out with covid and we’re under the regulated players. Youngsters aside.

It's strange not one EFL club seems to have been forced, or even agreed, to play with just the minimum number of 14 players, are they really all that unfortunate that they've only had 13 or less fit players.
At this rate unless some of our injured players return on NYD we won't play another game until the FA Cup match.

There’s no tournament this summer with the winter World Cup no no reason it can’t be extended. Even 1 week would help.

Or do they only want to play their youngsters against the inferior second class citizens that are L1 and L2 clubs?

Next season is already starting in July so already a very small pre-season. We will more likely play 2 games a week to catch up. We did it last season, likely to happen again I’d have thought. You're right but I doubt it will be extended. This is the EFL! UTG!

Brentford have 100% vaccinated and still managed to have a game called off after 13 members of playing and coaching staff had tested positive. Not sure why it's a disappointment to you if some of ours haven't been vaccinated? Because you'd hope they'd like to set an example to their supporters, given the environment they mix close contact with fellow players etc then they must be a bit brain dead not to have all had the vaccine, in fact you could suggest Barton was negligent in not attempting to ensure most of his players were vaccinated. if people don’t want to be vaccinated, that’s the end of it! FFS, know one should be made to do anything. I’ve been doubled vaccinated, but I’ll not have another, I’ve played the game and it’s not got me anywhere. No travel, no football, and lost my Dad to it. So covid can now get f**ked

EFL introduced more stringent testing a couple of weeks ago and the Conference did not.Thats why more non league games are being played

Get the kids out there. Cant tell me teams cant find 14 players. Too much shenanigans and self interest (understandable to an extent) but the PL and EFL are hardly transparent on their decision making and who gets away with what.
If you have 14 18 year olds on the pitch/match squad, so be it. Luck of the draw, just like any other injury situation

The last thing we need is to be dragged into a relegation battle after being forced to play youngsters.

If everyone is in the same boat in having to field their youngsters, we won't be at any more of a disadvantage than the other teams, unless we have considerably more cases, which is just luck of the draw like any other injury situation, as peterparker said.

As if ONE league game makes all the difference They (EFL) say clubs will be expected to play where it has 14 players including a goalkeeper available from registered squad list, along with 'Under 21 players not on the squad list but who have played one League match, or any other contracted player not on the squad list but otherwise would have been eligible to play'.
