I reckon we registered him to the league as #12, then after realising what a f*ckup it was rang the supporters club with an idea to save face.

Just before she locked her twitter account (so I cannot double check or link to the tweet in question); I am sure Helen said that this was discussed and agreed by the Supporters Club on Thursday last week. But if, as you suggest, this was a minor cock-up by the club and the SC brought in last minute to spin it into a PR move then that is a). hilarious but b). concerning that the SC were asked (and agreed) to lie to us over what was otherwise a trivial oversight by the club.

Nice Tweet from Elliot, coming from the North East, he obviously gets how important the bond between club and fans is. I'm sure he'll do the number 12 proud for all the fans. UTG ' Can you explain this? Do people in certain parts of the country "get" it more than others? Are people from Newcastle "better" fans than somewhere in the Midlands for example? I'm from the North West, where do I fit in this classification system? i am not saying they are better but the culture is/was definitely different - at least it was. 35 years ago i spent a year in Newcastle and when United lost the Town was dead on a saturday night. When they won it was party time. When i moved down here i noticed that a loss to Rovers or city had absolutely no affect on the Town on Saturday night. it was different cultures then but i am not so sure it is the same now

There used to be loads. Not so much now though. Every team sheet used to have 12 Gasheads on it. I think it's a shame that it is being used for a player. Given most fans probably can't even recall when it was last used on the team sheet is it really a shame a player is now using it, or just something else to moan about now performances have improved? I think you are pushing it in the wrong direction. The direction I want this discussion going in is when did we stop caring about the number 12 shirt? Was it with relegation to the conference? Or did it happen before or after then?

At some point between 2003 and now it seems to have lost its meaning to lots of people.
