No more 12th man then?
That's progress for you.

No more 12th man then? That's progress for you. Seems like an odd thing to do. Honour the 12th man the shirt is retired in honour of, by retiring the honouring because the supporters club fancy sponsoring a player, using the money which is supposed to go to the club anyway.

Could not care less, the lads gotta have one number or another. Our #12 been off the table since 2003 odd, if the SC want to bring it back into the fold then so be it.
Though I can imagine the floods of tears currently being shed on social media.

What a load of bloody nonsense….. it’s just a shirt number 🙄 Yep just a shirt number. And blue and white quarters is just a shirt design. It’s a shirt, what difference does it make? And while we’re at it let’s play in orange at home too. It’s just a colour after all? Why not change our nickname to the tangerines why we’re at it? If we’re wearing an orange kit? It’s just a nickname? It’s just a shirt number, but it’s a 19 year old tradition. Almost half as old as our close neighbours entire history! We have a unique kit, unique nickname. Something City can’t say about themselves (how many robins wearing red in a 75 mile radius alone). A shirt number is small, insignificant, relatively short in tradition but it’s part of our ID and if we let that go, then how long before some of the bigger things get eroded. If we’re going to give the 12 to someone it should be Alfie Kilgour.

Sorry but I just don’t see the issue here. As others have said, it’s a shirt number. I’m sure no disrespect is meant to anyone in giving this number to a player, wouldn’t make a difference to me if he was 12 or 112.

I strongly disagree with any player having the number 12 for us, never mind a loan signing.
I guess the club don’t consider us the 12th man anymore then.

Personally,I don’t see an issue, and wish football would revert to 1-11. 12th man has always seemed very Americanised and false to me. Purely a personal opinion.

I can remember persuading Geoff Dunford that the number 12 shirt should be 'Gasheads' for the fans.

I honestly can’t believe anyone would or could be upset by such an inconsequential thing . For me it’s tradition, been pretty as long as I remember that number 12 is retired for the gasheads. To then give it away mid season when there must be ~70 numbers to choose from doesn’t sit well with me. They know it’s for us, why give it away? Like G&E said, why not just lose the quarters while we’re at it? It’s just a colour. Why not change the badge? It’s just a picture. For me, number 12 is our identity at the club and we’ve thrown it away for a loan player.
