Feel free to move. Thought this deserves a bit of publicity. news.sky.com/story/swindon-town-fc-search-for-fan-who-wrote-to-the-club-saying-he-could-not-afford-to-go-to-matches-12542987"Swindon Town Football Club are searching for a six-year-old fan who said he could not afford to attend matches. Joe wrote to the club saying he could not attend matches because his mum "has no money for food". But he taped 20p, 5p and 1p coins on a piece of paper, which he asked to give to forward Harry McKirdy, who hit the headlines last month when he scored against Premier League side Manchester City. The letter read: "Mummy doesn't have any money to come to Swindon games because she has no money for food and has to pay for my dinner at school."

What a lovely lad! Sure they’ll track him down and give him a grand day out or two. The purity of youth is just gobsmackingly wonderful

Hope they trace him sad that some kids cant attend matches. What is sadder is the fact his mum does'nt have enough money for food.

I’ve tried this with Rovers a few times but apparently my plea that my BMW is really expensive on fuel “is not a proper charity case”
On a serious note, it is sad that not every kid can go to games. I remember being really poor and hiding from debt collectors as a kid with my parents. It does make you feel worthless when you see the other kids with everything they want.
It’s a wicked world and I’d happily stick my hand in my pocket now and then to help kids go to games. Kids don’t get a choice in their parents or circumstances.

Unfortunately due to a number of reasons the cost of living etc has rocketed with prices generally for all things going significantly up….
That’s why it’s really important for things like the recent food initiative Too Good to Go partnership where surplus food bags after matches can be purchased at significantly reduced prices and the donation of old unused kit to homeless charities etc that the Community Trust arranged is really important as well as a number of other things the Trust and Club do..
I’m also aware that the club received a similar message recently from a young family where the dad said he couldn’t afford to bring his children or attend a game as he couldn’t afford it despite the children really wanting to attend and the club have replied to say they’d arrange some free tickets for him…
I think we do have to be careful though as there are some who would take advantage of the goodwill when it is potentially not needed by them as in fact they are not in a position where they can’t afford it etc, but for those who really are in desperate need I think as a Community club just like Swindon are - it’s important to support as best we can.
I am proud of how the Community Trust and our club stand with and support those in adversity and step up in times of need and I think reminders like this help us to remember just how much good work gets done which is often forgotten by fans or doesn’t necessarily get the publicity it deserves..
I hope Swindon track this young fan down so he gets to enjoy a game as football is a great release from the troubles of every day life - even with kids and for me, every child deserves happiness in their life. I also hope that the mum manages to be supported so that they can afford the bare minimum essentials for any family of food and a roof over their head so that they can begin to enjoy life more as a family without the stresses of wondering how or when they are next going to eat…

I once put a post on this forum suggesting that all kids of Primary school and under should get in for free (with one paying adult per 4 kids maybe) and that they maybe pay with a tin of beans, peas or whatever. The food collected could go to the Bristol homeless and the kids that come to watch the games will become our future Gasheads. I am sure the club wouldn't miss out on a great deal of money but in the long run (when those kids have become hooked on the Gas) they reach an age where they have to start paying and our crowds swell and we secure the future fans for the club. Feel free to pass this thought on to Tom Gorringe!!!

I really hope this lad is found. Football has a place in all of our memories growing up, and I wish he goes on to create many of his own.
Good luck Swindon on finding him..

Cant help but think this could be a wind up? Oh you cynical old sod! I thought the same…. Seriously though what a great story. Hope Swindon can give the lad the special treatment at a home game soon.

Always! Maybe a bit premature to do a GoFundMe before actually locating him though. Any 6-year old Joe's in the Swindon area are quids in!

Way, way back in the 1960's I lived as a young lad in Glasgow. I used to go to games and ask a stranger to give me a " lift over" the turnstile. Some would tell me to get lost but there was always someone who get me in for free. It was a pity when I got to old to blag my way in

Some would tell me to get lost but there was always someone who get me in for free. It was a pity when I got to old to blag my way in Talking of Glasgow and this thread….if you’ve ever been in the Ibrox Trophy Room, there’s a letter in reply to the father of a 14 year old boy who had asked if his son could sit on the track beside the pitch as he had broken his leg playing football, the letter was sent by the then manager Scot Symon explaining how sadly he could not grant permission…..… …… that small boy was Walter Smith who went on to manage his boyhood team and win 21 trophies including 10 league titles!

Cant help but think this could be a wind up? Over 4k raised for him now. Every 6 year old called Joe is going to come forward, even if they have to watch Swindon to get the money😂.
