Had my ticket but sadly missed the game today. Great win and finally a weeks break for this team. We’ve won some ugly games recently which is exactly what we’ve needed to do. We’ve played Tuesday/Saturday for something like 6 weeks whilst carrying injuries so to win again today is pretty impressive. I think FGR & Exeter will have the top 2 spots but 3rd is up for grabs amongst all teams. Biggest threat has to be Vale IMO Massive game on Tuesday with Exeter going to Vale. A Vale win would make it even more condensed at the top.

Just back. We were lucky to win, but it was a very committed performance. Before the game, I like others was worried about set-pieces and in the first half, we were vulnerable - the towering header by the centre-half that hit the angle beteween bar and post deserved a goal. They pressed very strongly and we weren't able to work the ball through midfield. Coutts anf Finley were anonymous, Billy largely ineffective and, in the first half especially, Evans had one of his poorer games. Taylor anf Connelly were good against the long ball, but less good at marking at the set-pieces. To me Hoole had his poorest game for a while, but his winger was their danger player.Belshaw was a gain outstanding. We played better in the second half and they created little, if anything. Even then though, there was a shot that almost broke the crossbar. All in all the positives were the result, the team-spirit and the committment all the players showed. Onwards and upwards. Good summation ,can’t disagree with any of that however I would add that our travelling support was another positive, never let up for a second and gave Northampton a 90 min lesson in how to get behind your team if Belshaw doesn’t get player of the season I will eat my bobble hat

Coutts was class today imo. Evans had a quiet game and they doubled up on Billy Elliot making it hard for him to produce much going forward, Harry Anderson worked his socks off. I thought Evans played very well today.
Northampton made it scrappy, niggly and dour and just like with Billy Elliot he was nullified in an attacking sense, but he dug in and won the ball back a lot which showed another part of his game.
This squad are really working their socks of for eachother.

Northampton always and have always played hiof ball! For all the different managers and players they've had over the years that club still play the same boring aggressive long ball sh**! How and why???

Decent day that was, cruised over to Northamptonshire early doors. So early the lady running the car park thought we were there for the car booter! Decent steak chucked down in TGI’s followed by a visit to the boozers up the hill.
Superb weather, amazing following, dream start and we did an absolute number on them the rest of the game! They doubled up on Billy as expected, but we battled hard all over the pitch. I thought we were putting it to bed when E.Anderson rounded the keeper, Collins was free 6 yards out for the pull back!! Regardless, it was a stop/start scrappy affair and we managed the game out perfectly. Becoming quite astute at the corner game & getting the trainers on where there’s minutes to run down.
Quickly on Northampton, I thought they were a poor outfit heavily reliant on punting it up the pitch & the long throws as their only outlets. On the deck they barely hurt us all day (smacking the bar and Belly’s save aside)
Great scenes in the closing minutes and at the FT whistle, that away end was class! Onto Cumbria we go!

How and why??? They have a small pitch. We have a good sized pitch and a great surface now. My guess is that managers play to that. Back at twerton we had a cow field and we used that to full advantage

Evans has had to change from his number 10 role to a deeper position with Finley further forward. Hence we are not seeing his flair as much but we are seeing him head the ball and make crunching tackles. He really is a versatile player.

Another reason we need to go up this season - if we’re to have any chance of keeping Evans, Taylor (on loan), Nicholson etc then we need to be in L1. These players won’t want L2 football

Great day out winning away in the sunshine, it doesn’t get much better does it?. I thought we were just about worth the win even if it was an ugly one. Rovers were the only side trying to play football whereas Northampton were all long ball, long throws and diving all over the place. Sure we have a fantastic save from Belly and the crossbar to thank for our win but I would have felt hard done by if we hadn’t won there.

What a result! Lovely sunny day, good crowd behind us but gosh you can feel the nerves kicking in now in the stands, which is a sign of what we can see happening. As I said before we ‘find a way’, yesterday was a horrible game, very niggly and a tough game played by both sides, it’s just how it worked out and was a terrible game to watch, however we battled and gave as good as we got. Recently we have played some lovely stuff but it was good to see we can win ugly when required. In the past we would have almost certainly lost that type of game.
What a run we’re on, the joy, fun and sheer anticipation is on all the supporters faces both young and old, everyone can’t wait for the next episode!
Enjoy your Sunday fellow Gasheads 💙

A longer thinner pitch is more suited to the long ball teams. ...... sorry, can't avoid the innuendo any longer. Mem is a decent length but has girth

Superb 3 points. What a difference it makes when you don’t actually have to play well (with the ball) to win games.
Got 3/4 matchwinners who can produce something from nothing and we’re keeping clean sheets for fun.

I just thought it looked like a small pitch. One yard extra is f all

At 38 seconds may I ask if anyone knows if that was the fastest goal in league 2 this season
