I predict a riot Hopefully NOT..The football authorities, football clubs and Police need to get a grip NOW Announce fans bans and fines for flares and dangerous weapons invasions on playing area Drug and drunk fans need to be removed by stewards and police if necessary The game is in chaos and needs major investigation like partygate maybe call it INVASIONGATE A good natured celebration on the terraces and within seats is wholly acceptable BUT cross the line and go over barriers onto the playing surface is totally unacceptable. CCTV should be sufficient to identify culprits Manchester City and Liverpool fans take note NO PITCH INVASIONS NO FLARES, NO DRUGS AND NO REQUESTS FOR SHIRTS ON CARDBOARD Feel sorry for the emotional pressure DC must be under losing a daughter but his behaviour towards a Swindon player last night was frankly UNACCEPTABLE DC has already apologised for his actions , like you say he’s suffering at the moment so give the guy a break FFS , we all make mistakes especially when suffering from the type of bereavement he and his family are going through at the moment , crap post imo have some respect

Did I say that? No. I was agreeing that they don't help themselves if they antagonise fans. It's common sense that if you go into a bar and chat someone's missus up you are more likely to get a slap than if you just go in a bar for a quiet pint. Same principle. Fans spend ninety minutes abusing players to get a reaction. When they get one they want to use that reaction to justify an assault. Your analogy is flawed. Not really , So you think what Adebayor did to the Arsenal fans was acceptable when he ran the length of the pitch and slid on his knees to celebrate his goal against them ?

I think ggmi is fooling around with that comment.. My point was that the players could help the situation by cutting out or moderating their behaviour at times. I know he’s regarded as some kind of saint here but I think it has to be mentioned Darrell Clarke’s behaviour last night didn’t help. After what he has been through might be wise to cut him a little slack , he looked almost at breaking point 💙

I could not agree more. It is definitely the players fault. Fans have little choice but to run on the pitch and attack them. He has a point though. Some of these players are too cocky and think they can do what they like as they are untouchable being a footballer. A point could be argued that a little slap might do them some good! So what did the Swindon player do to warrant being attacked, apart from being a teammate of McKirky's? Also what did Sharpe do to warrant the headbutt apart from being stood in the wrong place at the wrong time? As far as posters saying fans should have heavy penalties you can't get much heavy than a 6 months jail sentence but that still didn't stop the aggro last night. In big tournaments no fans ever enter the field of play, I've never heard a fan say winning the Euro's, World Cup or Champions League etc didn't seem the same as we had to stay in the stands at the end of the match!

If it happens in a play off match they could give the club a points deduction the following season Ok, so 30k fans attend the game and 1 chump runs on and twats a player equals a 10 point deduction for the team next year? How is that ok? The fans who misbehave need punishing harshly. Pitch invasions are great, but the safety of all needs to be maintained. Would we punish all of the people in a bank when there's a bank robbery?

Ask the question, why did Adebayor do it in the first place? Ok it was a bit embarrassing and he looked an idiot, but why did he do it? Because Arsenal fans had been winding him up all game. Should he have risen to it? No he's a professional. Do fans ever go over the top with abuse? Yes some do then flip when they get some back. Neither party came up smelling of roses and that's often the case in these all too frequent fan/player incidents.

As an Everton fan who has personally never invaded a pitch in over 50 years of going to football but I am a tad angry about the abuse my club has received because one idiot thought it funny to get into Vieras face. The lad was an idiot and I dont blame Viera kicking out at him but it should also be noted other Everton fans escorted Viera away from the problem. Why were they on the pitch? This has been an absolute shitshow of a season for us starting with us employing a despised manager whos main claim to fame was winning trophies with the dark side this was never going to work.We also have to live with our biggest rivals potentially winning every trophy available while we were on the verge of relegation for the first time in 70 years. At half time we were 2 down on the verge of relegation then a miracle happened, you lads/lasses know what it is like to see a miracle played out in front of your eyes you saw one quite recently football is a game of emotions sometimes you laugh sometimes you cry but its like a drug and you cant walk away.

I actually think you raised some good points but your last sentence in regards to DC was rubbish , you’ve also then gone on to make yourself look a tad foolish by claiming to know that I don’t respect others posters views , I respect all views but it doesn’t mean i have to agree with you , ooops I almost forgot to add a patronising x

No need to get personal my friend it’s only a football forum discussion No insult intended. I sometimes have an abrupt tone. However, I stand by what I said. We shout crap at players. They react by going to peices like Taylor or by scoring and giving us some back. For me that's a brilliant part of the game. If people are unable to understand that dynamic then they do not understand football. There is really nothing a player can do (without getting sent off) that will ever warrant being attacked. To suggest they make idiots worse is just nonsense. They were already an idiot to begin with.

I must admit I don't quite understand how I am considered to be a tad foolish in any way to be honest. The thing is the topic is about pitch invasions and I replied about that very subject and the reference to DC was purely a side issue. The main thrust of the topic has to be addressed by everyone associated with football in stamping out pitch invasions and particularly attacks on players by so called fans. I hope that makes sense now By you adding a patronising x now makes you a tad foolish !

Surely the issue isn't about fans going on the pitch it's what they do when they get there which has become the issue this season, there's clearly no easy way to protect 50(?) players and coaching staff from both teams so you can now see the EFL stating any club's fans who enter the pitch will receive a 3 pts penalty, possibly even denied promotion/a play off final place.

Most people have switches, we saw that with Darrell Clarke and Paul Heckingbottom this week. Fans who run on and do idiotic things have the idiot switch, obviously. Outside influences can definitely activate that side of a human Many of these idiots are often very decent people when they aren't decked in SI at a match. Family people with decent jobs but can become a numpty if the stars align.
