The narrative was the he was stuck in a foreign country and in lockdown and that he felt terribly homesick. What most fail to mention is that most Germans have a good grasp of English. Whatever happens, we need players who want to be here. If he doesn’t want to be here after the season we just had then he never will. I have spent a lot of time in Hamburg. It must be me talking to the wrong people, but most don’t speak a word of English in my experience. Quite right to, I am a believer that you should be able to communicate in the native tongue where ever you are. I don’t mean fluent. Just enough to be able to communicate. Laziness in my opinion. Agreed but i don’t know how long you spent there, my experience was that most wouldn’t engage in English until they got to know me but then there was no stopping them. I got to speak the language to a good degree and made money out of translating from German to Polish and, at last, my Polish earned me some money. I seem to pick up languages quickly , in comparison to others but then, i like to get involved in different cultures. I had a hard time in getting to speak German after i got to know those i worked with as they wanted to hone their English. I also found that they seem to learn more than just English. Damn it, how i wish things were different and i could have stayed

Typical students think the world and parents owe them a living. My grandfather was up a chimney at 12 and serving in army fighing the hun in the Battle of the Somme at 17. Kids of today don't know what generations of people did to give them freedom and an education. Cheers for the swooping generalisations, granddad 🙄 Pretty sure it was tongue in cheek but, as always, i could be wrong

I am not sure if directed at me but if you think us “boomers” had an easy life then you have not been studying that era but i will say, we had much less yet felt so much happier with what we had. My comment was based upon stats of drop out and from personal experience of late teens not being able to do basic stuff like sew, cook and just some basic stuff. We, or should i say, many of us, had lessons to learn these skills plus power strikes, Thatcher, 3 day weeks and so much more. Can you imagine the pulava a power strike would have now. It reminds me of the Monty Python sketch, you were lucky 😂

Jobs were far easier to get (yes, at two ha'pence a week) and society was 'more liberal'. That's a joke. I remember an anecdote about two soldiers taking off their belts and beating the **** out of a gay guy. Does that sound "liberal"? The 50s were grey. That's what spawned the Beatles and Stones - we had to do it for ourselves, it wasn't laid on. No gap years, no touring the world, very few went to University. Oh yeah, we had it easy.

Ignoring the huge amounts of families struggling to feed and heat their places, let alone buy their own. Yep, tell me more of your struggle when you bought a house for £10k and had a job for life straight out of school.

Just have to take it with a huge pinch of salt, i used to get het up and even angry, after reading some posts and replies but it really does go over my head BUT i would say that, if someone has a sensitive ego or even , god forbid, mental health problems then I’d say any football forum is not the best of places.

I could get political but will hold back but there is an old Polish proverb that, roughly translated say that nothing is impossible for someone with the will to do so. As for free university, we got grants of around 1200 quid and, believe me, that was living on noodles and living in slum landlord properties you now have loans and you do not even pay them back if you do not earn a fairly decent salary.
