My guess is that it’s the same guy running the academy account and they were accidentally posted to the wrong one.

It seem deliberate to me as I can't recall the club ever previously sending out a number of Tweets about signing 9 year olds etc, I did wonder what was going on before TC's came though.

I don’t remember any Hughes penalties? He went to Plymouth as coach… Both wrong, Notts county, Fleetwood, Cambridge then Tranmere ( twice), now playing for Irish side Larne. I never knew he was Oirish en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Hughes_(footballer)Very decent player for us 28 goals in 129 appearances or so. Believe he came across for the recent testimonial game at the Mem.

Having little or no talent for the job he'd chosen as a career probably helped too. I have to admit i have no idea of his stats but wasn’t he banging them in for Shrewsbury prior to coming to us If you call 11 goals in 39 games 'banging them in'. I expect 10 of those went in off his arse.

I think it's a matter of Que sera sera. If we had signed him on a 3 year deal and he turned out to be terrible then we would be complaining. Downside of a 'prove yourself' contract is that if the player does, they will have options. If he goes, he goes with my blessing. Those freekicks have been way beyond league 2 quality. We did the right thing with his contract, we will just need to find the next player looking to prove themselves. I’m kind of surprised that we didn’t throw in an optional 1 year clause into his contract, considering we were signing a 24 year old who’d played in the Bundesliga and League One. Perhaps he didn’t want that in there and we were desperate to get the deal over the line before the window closed. Guess we’ll never know. How many games had he played in the bundesliga? 4 or 5 wasn't it. Hopefully, we can offer him something that temps him. Otherwise it's so long and thanks for all the fish..

On that fantatic saturday a few weeks ago i was sitting near his family (20 of them) and indeed i chatted with his grandad at some length. It is a very close knit group and and his grandad in particular is important to him. The 2 embraced for ages at the final whistle. The grandad has travelled to virtually all of his games - no mean feat as he lives in Merseyside. I asked them whether he would sign a new contract and they were non comittal until after the final whistle when they said - " more chance now". I think locality is probably more of a factor for him that most players seem to. They did say that he loves playing for Rovers It didnt seem to bother him too much when he went 670 miles away to play for Paderborn the 9 games you mean before they loaned him to Crewe for the rest of the season.

He still signed a 2.5 year deal for a German side. Just saying its not really the action of someone who needs to stay close to home so we might have a slight chance.

The narrative was the he was stuck in a foreign country and in lockdown and that he felt terribly homesick. What most fail to mention is that most Germans have a good grasp of English. Whatever happens, we need players who want to be here. If he doesn’t want to be here after the season we just had then he never will.

My neighbours daughter signed up to go away to University for 3 years but was back by Christmas as she couldn't take being away from home for so long. People dont realise the affect that it would have on them when they move away and as parents/ grandparents get older then that also enters the thinking.

My grandfather was up a chimney at 12 and serving in army fighing the hun in the Battle of the Somme at 17. Kids of today don't know what generations of people did to give them freedom and an education.

It must be me talking to the wrong people, but most don’t speak a word of English in my experience. Quite right to, I am a believer that you should be able to communicate in the native tongue where ever you are. I don’t mean fluent. Just enough to be able to communicate. Laziness in my opinion.

I worked in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, etc and while it’s fair to say that a lot of younger Germans have a good grasp of English, thats not necessarily true of the older ones. I really wanted to practice my German, but every time I asked someone to repeat something I hadn’t quite understood, they said it in English!

Never had a chance to practice German as the conversation always defaulted to English. Went to Berlin when the 2006 World cup was on. What an epic few days. For those that watched the evening highlights ruined by drunk people in the background singing 'Ray Stubbs is a legend' I do not apologise.

You could question the signing of Junior Brown, Leon Clarke, Jon Nolan, Brett Pitman, Mark Hughes, we did not get much value from them. in fairness, clarke and pitman scored some vital goals between them, brown filled a gap when we were desperate, nolan was a chance signing that sometimes works and sometimes doesnt (billy bodin). For me, hughes was the one real disappointment. Had all the credentials, made a poor start, got injured then buggered off at the first opportunity To be fair to Hughes, the injury he sustained, actually finished his playing career. So to get an offer to coach at a decent club? Good luck to him
