Plymouth home in 73 or 74 I think ? Can't remember much other than it was much better than the Dark Side where my Dad took me regularly until then.

Agreed - shows a lack of respect for the history and tradition of a club.
However, I do like the fact that we now seem to be just called 'The Gas' on Quest. Perhaps we should consider a name change.
Unfortunately no longer on Quest. ITV 4 or something similar for this coming season.

30th September 1972 a six year old gaelgas was taken for his first taste of league footy to watch our local team (albeit still 50 odd miles away) because my mother wouldn't let my dad take me to Villa Park as she thought it was too dangerous. I had a six year old's irrational hatred for the scummy jacks and so I cheered heartily for the mighty Gas, much to my dad's embarrassment and the locals chagrin (we were in the home end obviously), even more so as Rovers won 2-0. The love affair started then and is still going strong today! UTG!

Rovers 3 Leicester City 1, FA Cup 3rd round in January 1986. I travelled to this game as a neutral from Sussex, little did I know at the time that I would move to Bristol with work less than 18 months later. My next Rovers match was in September 1987 at Ashton Gate, a 3-3 draw and that's the day I nailed my colours to the mast of the Pirate ship!

My first game to see Rovers was at the Dell, Southampton. It was the season Saints went up to Div 1 (77 or 78). My Dad was a Saints fan. Rovers were my second team as a kid. Saints won 3-1. Bobby Gould was playing for Rovers.
My first game as a Rovers fan was a 5-1 win away to Swindle in the league Cup (84 or 85?). I thought we were world beaters after that game. Realism soon set in. 🤣

First game I went too was the friendly we played against West Ham in ‘98. I remember after the game that Ian Wright had left quite the impression on me and has since been someone I’ve followed with great interest, I even wanted ‘hair’ like him Despite him having absolute zero 😂

Rovers 2 Chester 2. October ‘87 I think. Two late Devon White goals and the Twerton roar got me hooked for life! (or was it Greasy Joe shouting ‘Burgerrrrs’?

First Rovers game was against Villa in September 1974. All of the ingredients were there for me to make that switch to supporting a 'local' team. Rovers played in blue (like my beloved Birmingham) and were playing against the arch enemy Villa. Rovers won 2-0 against a Villa team that went on to win promotion that season. That result, combined with the style of play and fantastic atmosphere in the Tote, made me want to commit the rest of my life to supporting the blue and white quarters.
Great memories for those who remember this era. Younger supporters should be "punished" by being made to watch this. With enormous patience and continued blind allegiance The Gas may yet again be the Villa Slayers. White coats approaching. What do they want?

Greetings one and all.
Having just joined the forum afetr years of 'lurking' made me think back to my first game and the reasons for my allegiance to the blue side of Bristol.
Having left Birmingham at the tender age of 8 in the late 60s to relocate to sunny Weston, I remained a Birmingham City fan for the next 6 years despite kids at school trying to beat it out of me.
Sad to report but I was actually taken to a City game first (child cruelty) but I think I fell asleep as it was so quiet and peaceful.
First Rovers game was against Villa in September 1974. All of the ingredients were there for me to make that switch to supporting a 'local' team. I found a video of the game and the quality and pace of the football on show still stands the test of time. Apologies for the half time adverts featuring poor taste in 70s fashion and even poorer taste in TV celebraties advertising road safety (I think you know of whom I speak).
Enjoy the watch if you are feeling nostalgic or if you just want to see what tackes you could get away with back in the day! UTG.
Thank you for posting this as i remember us playing Villa fairly often in those days and that season was my first on the Tote end. It was also the first season my dad allowed me to go away with them and it was very scary at Villa. I almost got separated from my family as well as we got surrounded by their fans, just a stomping their feet and then shouting SKINHEAD after every couple of stomps. The name Andy Lockheed springs to mind. I was talking about the parachutes and then thought i must have added in a false memory so i am really pleased to have seen this. I will watch it in full, later. Really, very much appreciated

Late 79, Aston Villa at Eastville aged 6 and so began my love affair with Rovers. Think it was Chelsea again at home in January 1980
